Pink Bus this Tuesday for my Sister?
Some of you have met my physician sister. She is the only sister out of the 4 of us who has not yet had breast cancer. After a great deal of soul searching, she is undergoing a bilateral mastectomy next week. I know she is scared, but she is also very strong. I so wish I could be there, but you all know my current battle with chemo. She has help lined up (daughter and RN friend), but I know she would love your support!!!
P.S. We are BRCA 1 and 2 negative, but docs feel it is definitely genetic. We just have not found our gene. Long family history--many generations involved.

Save a Seat for Me
Your sister is indeed a brave woman. It sounds like she has a great support system. My thoughts and prayers will be with her. I only wish such decisions did not have to be made. I will most certainly be on that bus on Tuesday.

Pink Bus
Of course I'll be there. I wish your sister did not have to have the B/L mastectomy, but if she can lesson her chances of getting this dreaded disease then she should do it. She will be in my prayers and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.
Hugs to both of you,
Ginny
PS: I hope you continue to feel better and better CC!!

Your sister is our sisterlintx said:Absolutely!
I know of women who have done this, too. Please let us know that everything goes well. Linda
but is she aware of what goes on inside that pink bus? We might humiliate her amongst her peers. We do work some powerful magic, tho.
Seriously, I'm wishing her the best possible surgery and follow up. I'll be on the bus and she'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

My love, my heart and my prayers are with you, and your Sister.
I have had the pleasure of meeting several of your Sisters -- such a loving, caring family you all are. I know your heart aches at the thought of not being at her side during her surgery, as well as recovery - . Is it Possible to Skye (?)
I will be there riding the PINK bus ... and offering support, as well as cocktails!

Wish your sister the best.Doctors know what's best.

Thank you everyone! I am
Thank you everyone! I am praying for her today and so wish that I could be there.
We indeed have a complex family history. I have 5 siblings and 4 have had cancer (3 sisters with breast; brother with thyroid). My dad had colon cancer and a colostomy. His brother died of colon cancer. His youngest brother has had precancerous colon polyps and numerous colonoscopies (which have saved him).
My dad did not have sisters but his mother had 4 sisters. His mother (my paternal grandmother) died of breast cancer. All of her sisters had breast cancer; one also had colon cancer. All of them but one died of breast cancer. The one that did not die of breast cancer had breast cancer but died from colon cancer.
Don't worry, we have all had numerous colonoscopies. My first colonoscopy they found a polyp and removed it. I have been told that with regular colonoscopies I may be able to avoid colon cancer as the colonoscopy can be preventive for cancer as well as a diagnostic tool.
I have felt strongly that my sister should have the mastectomies done, but, for whatever reason, she resisted for many years. She did take 5 years of aromasin. This decision was hers totally and I believe it was in part based on my recent woes and in part based on her physicians telling her it was a prudent decision. Lol, she hoped that they would say she didn't need to do this at all.
Praying she recovers as quickly as the rest of the sisters did after bilateral mastectomies. She has chosen the implant route. I will keep you all posted.
Thank you so much for your support!
