Update on Jason.....mixed CT Scan results

Hey all, I haven't been on here in a while. I had family members from 2 states come in, so needless to say I haven't had a lot of time to do much. Jason & I just got home from the hospital, he had to go to the ER Wednesday night with severe abdominal pain which turned out to be a partial blockage, which has since resolved itself, thank God. He was scheduled to have his first CT Scan since starting chemo on the 4th (Tuesday) to see what kind of tumor response he has had from the chemo, so since they had to do a CT anyway to see what the problem was in the ER, they just used that one to see where he's at so far. Kinda mixed results.....the largest tumor has shrunk, we won't know exactly how much until he goes for chemo Wednesday, then we will be able to talk to his regular oncologist to get the specifics, the report we got was just from the hospital doctor after he spoke to the radiologist who compared this scan to the one done back in February. That's the good news....the bad news is the met in his liver has actually gotten larger, again we won't know how much until Wednesday. The dr. said that his oncologist would probably want to try another kind of chemo or maybe radiation on the met in the liver. I was thinking though, Jason has had a total of 6 chemo treatments, but only the last 3 included Avastin (they had to wait until his incision from the exploratory surgery was completely healed before they introduced the Avastin into the mix), so my question is I wonder if maybe he just hasn't had enough of the Avastin to do it's job on the liver met? I read somewhere that sometimes the tumor will actually get bigger before it begins to shrink? Anyone have any ideas on that or thoughts of what may be done differently as far as the chemo or possible radiation? As always, thank you all so much for your help! You've been my life boat through this whole thing.....

    Hi! I've been thinking about

Hi! I've been thinking about you both lately and was hoping that Jason was doing well.  I know waiting for scan results is really stressful, but try not to speculate on what might or might not be going on since it will just stress you guys out even more.  I know, easier said than done...but take a deep breath, and try not to worry about things that you don't have control over anyway.

    Hugs to you both,

    Cyn

    Thanks Cynthia. I realize
Thanks Cynthia. I realize your advice was directed to Kris, but I too found it to be helpful.

Kris - Thanks for the update......have been wondering about you guys. Steve's liver tumors aren't responding well to chemo either. It's very frustrating and disappointing. Hang in there!

You said liver met a couple

You said liver met a couple of times which leads me to believe there is only one in the liver? If so I would be pushing for a liver resection.

    Yes....

There is only one as far as we know.....The doctors just seemed so sure that the chemo would get rid of it right away, but obviously that's not the case. I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but the met is IN the liver, not "on" it....does that matter? As far as treatments go, I mean.....

No, as most liver tumors are

No, as most liver tumors are in the liver as opposed to on it.  And if there's only one, depending on its location, it should make for a pretty easy surgery - at least for the surgeon.
