radiation side effects

in Anal Cancer #1

I have been reading about "Pelvic Radiation Disease" and the list of long-term side effects is very discouraging. I thought the worst was over but that may not be the case. Most of the articles, however, stated that the late radiation side  effects only affected a small per cent of patients. I was wondering: Is there anyone who completed radiation treatment at least two years ago and who is experiencing NO side effects?

    I was sailing along smoothly from about 6 months after treatment until about 4 year and 4 months after, which was this past January, when I had the intestinal obstruction.  Other than that, I would say I had very minimal long-term side effects.  I think most people do well.  Are you beginning to have issues?  If so, what?  There are some that can be controlled with diet or meds.

    I don't know how to put this delicately, so if you are easily grossed out, stop reading now. After 6-9 months of being symptom free, I suddenly started having a problem About a week ago, I started leaking watery poop. Although it is not much, it is continuous, so I never feel clean, no matter how often I wash up and change pads or diapers. I feel normal BM's but I can't feel this leakage happening. Hopefully, this is temporary but I'm afraid it is not. Right now, I'm afraid to go anywhere. It would be an understatement to say that this problem is inconvenient, not ot mention expensive.

    I realize that this is not actually diarrhea, per se, but you might try taking one Imodium tablet daily as a preventative measure and see if that helps.  I can certainly understand how this can be more than an inconvenience.  Also, if you are not taking a probiotic, you could try that.

    missgrace nothing too gross for us

     radiation might have weakened your anal sphincter muscles. which it often does....... try exercises like Kegle to strengthen them... the immodium is a good idea also....   sephie
