almost 5 yrs ago I had lumpectomy (done by general surgeon) At the time I never knew there was a BREAST surgeon. Right after my surgery the Dr left the area. I had not been seen by a surgeon until Nov suspsicous area in same breast. (thank goodness it was scar tissue, as posted in past)

So now I must see this new surgeon-soon! 6mths check up-will I be seeing him as often as the oncologist? IS he never ending visits as well? I am going for office visit and mammo soon-so I guess I NO longer have them done through oncologist.??? IF YOU can follow me..

I haven't seen my surgeon for

I haven't seen my surgeon for over 3 yrs - he was the first to tell me he never wanted to see me again - as long as I see my PA every 6 mths - no prob - she insists on seeing me every 6 months anyway now.   My rads Dr also kicked me 'to the curb' shortly after my burns finally healed with the same provision that I see my PA every 6 months.  My PA orders mammos, does PAP an anything else she deems needed  like annual bone density test to keep track of osteoporosis issues.  I still see my chemo Dr every 6 mths (which falls 1/2 way between my PA appts so I see 'someone' every 3 mths.  He says he will be seeing me every 6 mths for life as he wants to be sure I stay on Femara forever being IBC.  He always reminds me that IF I have any problems to call him immediately - never have.

We are each so unique that there is no 'One Size Fits All'.  Also our Drs are all a bit different.

    Don't do as I did...

I saw surgeon and oncologist every 3 months and then every 6 months and then once a year. When I reached a year I stopped seeing  surgeon as he retired and I didn't think I needed to continue with his replacement. I didn't see the radiologist after treatment cause I didn't see the need. I did keep seeing the oncologist up to when we moved out of state. But every doc has his own opinion and every person is differant . You might ask the doc how long you need to see him.

    My first surgeon left

My first surgeon left practice the week of my follow up from lumpectomy. I didnt' get another one until I needed another lumpectomy on the same side. So now he will be in control of my scripts for mammos etc. I will still see my Medical oncologist and radiologist oncologist , as well.
