Anyone had a deep bone or muscle infection in the jaw??
Hi again, I have been randomly viewing the posts for the past few months and not really getting in the conversation fray. John (Skiffin) does a great job of keeping everyone informed and in a good mood. He and I speak the same language, so why duplicate!!!???
However, I woke up Saturday morning with my left cheek swollen and very painful. Spoke to dentist and she said probably a deep bone infection due to the long term effects of RADS. I have an appointment with ENT today to see if it all fits. My teeth have started to be a problem, but I expected that after many years on this site reading the plight of others. This one is new to me. My dentist said the RADS reduces/weakens the blood flow to the teeth and jawbone and thus leaves it susceptable to infection more easily.
I'll keep you posted, but this is a a painful son of a gun, I'm telling you. Just checking in if others had a deep bone or muscle infection in their jaw/neck, whatever.
All of you, thanks for keeping positive and fighting the good fight. Life is good, we just need to work our the kinks when they come up.
all the best,
Steve

hey Steve
One would almost need a ouija board to figure this answer to the question of a swollen jaw. A dental abscess is a dental abscess, after all, and there's no way to really discern what may be osteoradionecrosis by just kinda calculating it. No disrespect to your dentist, but unless there is more to your story than you've just told, you very likely just have an abscess. And it will be treated as such. Antibiotics. Maybe HBO. Maybe extraction following HBO, but certainly xrays, etc first. Honestly, I don't think you need to be crossing any bridge until you are really there. And that will take some time and thought.
best

Ok, got the word
Maso Teric muscle in my jaw is infected. A strange one for sure. On strong antibiotics for next 3 weeks.
My range of motion to open my mouth shrunk to about 3/4" in a few days. Kind of disconcerting, but I hope the Anti-B work. I'll keep you all posted.
thanks for your comments on my request

Boy, this is a new one on me. Here's hoping the antibiotics knock that one right down and it never comes back again.

Hey bro..., hope all is well out in SF area...
I haven't heard on anyone that hadn't first had teeth problems that became infected as a result or extractions, etc... But you've been kicking around here nearly as long as I have.
Hoping they find you both a fix, and the underlying reason...
Best,
John
