Dad's is scheduled for surgery
Dad is scheduled for Ivor Lewis surgery 4-4-13. The surgeon said him and his team reviewed dad's history and felt that surgery could be an option with us understanding that he will more than likely have some bumps in the road during recovery. He said if dad didn't have the surgery he would need more chemo/radiation 6 1/2weeks isn't enough. I'm confused about that because we were told he had a complete response to the chemo/radiation he already had. I knew that my father's best option for a longer life would be surgery so I'm glad we didn't accept NO as an answer. Granted, we are a nervous wreck because of the complications and knowing that he has to get another J-Tube when the 1st one turned out to be a nightmare with infection. However I know the surgeon thought long and hard about this and I know that he will be in great hands. My father made the decision to go ahead with surgery, he feels like he's made it this far why not go the distance. Other than that he doesn't say much. I keep reminding him not to forget that if a node comes back positive he will still need chemo after surgery, he just say's that he knows. Do you think I should go over the possible complications with surgery again with dad? The surgeon did already, I just want to make sure my dad gets it. I don't want him to do this surgery, suffer from a complication, and regret he ever did it. This site has been a blessing for my family and I. I read a lot of your guy's stories to Dad this weekend, I believe it gives him strength and hope. The courage you have during this fight is unbelievble!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Any advice on what or how to prepare for this surgery?

Your dad probably understands
Your dad probably understands the problems he could have, but he probably also knows surgery is the best option ,if the dr. gave the okay. I Had a positive node after surgery, and was only able to take a half round of chemo because of complications. I am now five years cancer free.
Praying for him,
Sandra

Sandy, that is so great that you have been CANCER FREE for 5 years. I didn't realized you had a node come back postive, I missed that when reading your posts. Today I was feeling very anxious, and when I read this it helped. Thank you some much for taking the time to help me along the way. I've been praying everyday for Dad to get the oppurtunity to have surgery, now I'm a nervous wreck about the complications and especially the lymphnodes.
Congrats 5 YEARS!!!

So happy for you
I'm sure you are feeling for your dad the way I was feeling for my husband. Happy...that there is hope. Scared....for the surgery, rightfully so. Anxious... to get this phase over with. The biggest, overwhelmed. I wish you and your father the best and will definitely being praying for you. One hour at a time.

Hi Tina
I think it is cool that we share the same name, and that our dad's have/had the same cancer! That is a good sign to me. Looking forward to
hearing back from you after your dad's surgery. Praying without ceasing. Forever Daddy's Little Girls!
