Robert....
I wasn't plagued by mucous, so can only suggest things 2nd hand. One member had good luck with the Musenex....another member just posted this:
"Wal-Act from Walmart dried me up quite nicely and gave me a welcome break. You have to ask for it from behind the counter."

As with everything we learn here, what works for one, might not work for another....but at least these two things are worth a try.

Robitussin is the expensive versionmlbrooks852 said:Mucus
Our oncologist told us to use Robitussin plain. Dale thought it helped him.
There are alot of generic versions. Robitussin and Mucinex are usually in the $10 range. CVS and Walgreen's have their own version at $7.99. I started using Walmart's Equate version. $2.72 in this area for an 8 ounce bottle. If you look on the label for active ingredients, Guaifenisen is the ingredient that does the mucous breaking up. The DM version has dextromethorphan which is for coughs. If you use the DM version, you can not take as big a dose. Most of the generic versions are either called just Tussin. Discovering WalMart's version recently has been a Godsend for me. I go through alot of this stuff to keep the musous flowing because it is so much cheaper and yet has the same amount of Guaifenisen per 5 ml (teaspoon).

sorry your going through this....
I'm 4 months out and have mucous problems. I started drinking coffee again(don't like tea) and it seems to help a little. The hot liquid breaks down some of that "gunk" at the back of my throat. If you don't like coffee or tea, maybe salted hot chicken broth?
