Just got Petscan results...
When I got home from my onc appointment I asked my mom if she wanted the good news, bad news or sh*t news.
The good news is the original tumor is almost the same size as the last Petscan showed in June. The SUV (standardized uptake value) is lower. That indicates the rate at which the tumor is growing.
The bad news is there is a second tumor a little higher than the first. This tumor although tiny could cause problems with my organs, ie kidney blockage. She said it is important to keep my kidneys well since I will need chemo again.
And on that subject she wanted to start the chemo in the next month or two. I asked about other things to try and she said there isn't anything. The estrogen blockers have stopped working. I told her I was sure she told that if the estrogen blockers didn't work, there was something else before chemo, something like chemo. She looked like she didn't know what I was talking about. She said I had time to think about chemo but I told her I would let her tell me when it is necessary. She looked at me and said, you'll lose your hair. I said I know and I just got a new hairdo and color. She said I noticed. Then I said I don't care I look cute bald, too! I said I will do what I have to do to stay here longer. She said, oh you will.
Then she said she was tempted to try one more thing. I said let's go for it. So she is having me take Exemestane (Aromasin) for a month and if it doesn't work I will have to start chemo. She said I will have taxol and carbo probably for six months in three-week intervals. I tolereated those drugs pretty well last time. It was the cisplatin that nearly killed me.
So ladies that is where I am at right now. I feel okay about it. I am trying to remain positive.

Dear Karen
You can fight this! I hope that the Aromasin does what it's supposed to do but if not, I think carbo and taxol will kick your cancer's butt. I thought I looked pretty darn good bald too. Bald is beautiful! And luckily for most of us, it's short-lived. This cancer ride is truly a rollercoaster of emotions and I'm so grateful that we can share the good, bad and ugly on this board. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers your way as you begin the next phase of your journey. Please keep us posted, of course.
Big hugs,
Kelly

our hair
it stinks that your hair is how you want it and maybe you will have to have the chemo again. she might however remember what she talked about before to try before chemo. could it be Avastin?
I'm sure whatever the plan you will do it well and kick butt!Good Luck!

I am sorry it is notKaren
I am sorry it is not exactly the news you wanted to here. You are a tuff "dirty girl" and I know you can overcome this hurdle. Stay positive and that will take you far. You will not travel this journey alone because you have all of us. We got your back and remember always.... You have cancer...Cancer does NOT have you my friend.

Hey, Karen
You were one of the first people whose comments and advice I remember, back when I first joined this board. I love your sensitivity and honesty. You will get over this bump in the road, just like you did the other ones. I will certainly hold you in my thoughts and prayers. (I really like what you said in another thread about not letting cancer get into your soul!).
Cheers,
Jo

Taxol and Carbopattysoo said:In the same boat (almost)
I'm just wondering why Taxol again? Why not Doxil?
I think I might begin Tamoxifen. It'll be the last homone blocker for me to try before resuming chemo.
Stay strong.

were the drugs that reduced the cancer so that I was able to have debulking surgery. I guess they figure they'll work again.
