Follow Up Tomorrow!!

Hi all,

I had a radical nephrectomy 6 weeks ago now and tomorrow is my follow up appointment.  I know I need to know the staging of the tumor but I suppose I'm just a little frightened about what May hear.  Initially they were only going to do a partial but the roots were longer than they thought so they took the whole kidney.  Is the sizing just the bit that is visable and not include the roots?  After the op they said they were confident it was contained and by the ct scan it was approximately 4cm.....could they have got that part wrong?  He also said no follow up treatment just monitoring for 5 years.   I suppose I am just looking to you all because you are either going through it or have come out the other side.  I'm so glad to have found this site and I am happy to meet you all.

    Good luck!!!

    Eims,

Sounds like you are saying that this will be your first glimpse of the pathology report which seems a bit odd, mine took 5 days.  At any rate, a 4.0cm tumor is small, roots or no roots, and clear cell, stage 1, grade 1, with clear margins are the most likely results.  Mine was 4.2cm and it has been nearly 3 1/2 years for me, it seems like the blink of an eye and I expect you'll think so too.  A surgical cure is likely and you should have a long time to tell the tale of when you "HAD" cancer long ago.

Let us know how it turns out,

    Gary

    Hi!

You are about 2 months ahead of me on all this. I'm following along, trying to be a cheerleader when I really haven't learned all the cheers yet, but I'm enthusiastic! Laughing  I DO know that a positive attitude and outlook keeps spirits high and that is important!

I'll be reading others posts here with great interest.  I have two good ears (so to speak) and I'm a good listener.  I'll stop by to help rally you on as often as I can!

    Cheers!  Bon Chance!

    5 days??

    Hi Gary,

5 days??  Wow!!  I'm in Ireland and things take a little longer here!!  Yep it will be the first time I hear what type it was etc.  3 1/2 years that is fabulous and I am delighted to hear that.....it always helps to hear positive stories.  Its amazing how most of these tumors are only caught by chance.  I was sent for an ultrasound for my gall bladder and this is how mine was flagged and I still think someone upstairs was looking after me!!

    Caught by chance...

    Hi Eims,

It took a motorcycle crash and a bunch of broken bones to find mine, but I've never regretted it for a second.  I visited Ireland 18 yers ago, beautiful, but I'm glad I'm on this side of the pond, I don't think I could have lasted for six weeks, WAITING SUCKS!!!  You are right about being looked after from above.

I am feeling a little on the

I am feeling a little on the nervous side today but I know we will get throught it.  I hope the crash didn't do you too much more harm but honestly I truly believe everything happens for a reason!!  My goodness the roads here are bad enough at the moment so 18 years ago they were atrocious!!!  I just hope he hasn't changed his mind since after the op ;-)  Thanks Gary.

well the results came back and i think i am still in shock.  they told me that the cancerous part of the tumor was smaller than they thought 2.3cm.  it was a t1 grade 3.  they are happy that it was contained and it will be a ct in 6 months time.  i really feel like i was exceptionally lucky and blessed at the same time.

    CONGRATS!!!

There, now that wasn't so bad was it, yeah right.  Bet you're wondering what all the fuss was about.  Soon you'll have forgotten most of the bad stuff and things will be back to "normal" except for those darn scans to remind you, but you can LIVE with those.

    Awesome!

Good news for you Eims! It's so good to see positive out of this. Like some have said, before you know it life will be back to normal. I'd take the scans any day - glad to hear it turned out well for you.
