BMT for AML eto necessary?

Hi my husband has been diagonised with AML eto (8,21 translocation). He needed two rounds of chemo to get it in remission. His doctor thinks it will get okay with just chemo but there is another doc who thinks BMT is the way to go. I just don't get it. Why will we need BMT if this thing can go away with chemo alone. Is there anyone AML M2 survivors without BMT? Please let me know, your words would bring me so much peace. Thank you so much for reading.
