Lynch Syndrome?....anyone?

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in a while.  Jason went today & had his staples removed from the surgery Friday before last. He also found out that he has what is known as "Lynch Syndrome", which is basically an inherited gene that makes you prone to getting different kinds of cancer at an early age. (colon being one of them) So now his parents & siblings are being tested to see if they also carry the gene. He has his first appt. with the oncologist Wednesday to discuss the chemo, etc. then he goes Friday to have the port put in to begin the treatments. He is having a hard time eating a whole lot, he says he feels full after eating just a small amount, so I'm hoping that the chemo will shrink the tumor enough to at least make it easier for him to eat.

I'll try to do better on keeping everyone updated on his progress. It means so much to us both to know that there are so many sweet, caring people cheering him on! OH! I almost forgot, his hiccups are GONE! (finally....after 6 days!) His dr. prescribed Thorazine, & that did the trick. (Thank goodness, they were driving us both nuts! ) Thanks again for caring! So very glad to hear from you. 

We know how busy and stressfull these first few weeks of waiting are, and don't blame you for not getting on here.

Very happy to hear that he is healing and ready for chemo.  

I hope that he continues to eat little meals many times a day to keep his strenght up. 

We are definitely all here for both you and Jason.

I am sure you must feel like

I am sure you must feel like your world is spinning Kris...

I am so glad that he got relief from the hiccups and I hope he is able to eat small amounts several times a day to keep his strength up.

I am not familiar with Lynch Syndrome but I bet someone here will know exactly what your hubby is dealing with.

Don't feel pressured to post, we just wanted you to know we are thinking about you.

Did he go through the whole

Did he go through the whole genetic testing or did they just test the tumor?  My husband's surgeon has suggested this testing too, because he is under 50.   They sent us a Loooong questionnaire to fill out and I asked if they could just test the tumor first!  They said they are doing that, but we haven't heard yet.  The way I understand it, if he is positive for Lynch, then our kids should be tested and should start having screenings (colonoscopies) in their 20's - instead of 10 yrs before my husband's diagnosis which is what is recommended if Lynch is not positive.   I've also heard there could be false negatives. 

My husband is in the hospital now with blood clots.   One thing after another - I guess we just have to roll with it. 

I hope Jason does well with his treatment.  My husband too wasn't eating much in the beginning and lost a lot of weight.  He's gained it all back and then some!  When they were worried about him losing too much, the dietician suggested adding olive oil to foods like soups, sauces etc for extra calories.
