Life after total Hysterectomy - no hormones!?!

Hello;  I am 48 years of age and diagnosed only a  week ago.  I have surgery scheduled 2/19 for a total Hyst. I just learned that because of the nature of uterine cancer and the way it thrives on estrogen I will not be able to take or use hormones after.  I have no idea yet what this all means other than I am sure to be thrust into menopause immediately after surgery.  Based on your experience, what can I expect?  how to deal?  Advice, suggestions and feedback all welcomed

I Had my hyterectomy for ovarian back on 2/29/12 and also was not allowed any hormones. Honestly the hot flashes were the hardest part of the menopause for me. I am still having them almost a year later later, but just a few a day now. Not much of a sex drive, but other than that It was not too bad. Good luck with your treatment!!

It can be scary to read about all the different issues and symptoms the ladies here have.  I am trying to become educated but not borrow trouble that isn't mine      Tough balance for me, just want to be prepared so I am not blindsided - I guess you can never be prepared

Hormones

Gosh I hope you come out with no side affects like I did after hysterectomy.  I had my 6-week checkup with OB after surgery and asked him when do the hot flashes and other side affects start? He simply looked at me and grinned...consider yourself lucky.  I have to tell you I had NO symptoms and to this day not sure why.  I'm not overweight, was considered in very good health and ate well, prior to the surgery, plus an avid exerciser.  

If you do have some of the hot flashes, there are some over the counter natural supplements which I've heard are helpful.  Can't tell you the names, but have heard of women using them with much success.

Same

I was the same as you Jan... maybe acouple of mild ones at night, but just took the covers off and I was fine.   I was 45 when I had my hysterectomy and also an avid excerciser, LOVE to run.   

Mia, I hope all goes well.  I feel the way I did before, actually better that I don't have the heavy bleeding.

i took was and currently still am an avid exerciser, very active. I have had absoultely no symptoms after the hysterctomy. I had mine on 12/12/12

i also started walking alot the day i got home from the hospital and continued until i had clearance to pick things up.  Picked tham up and like the others have said feel absolutely great.

hope all goes well and you find the same

I have had a few symptoms

I finally figured out what my quick to anger was, no hormones. I started that about 2 weeks out, or maybe it was "the situation" not sure but I cut back on the morning coffee and it has helped considerably. I have never been a hot head like that. it took my husband by surprise, he just looks at me now with raised eye brows then grins....that's my que to stop and try to hold my tongue or walk away.

It has sort of been funny, I start back to work Monday since my surgery will be four weeks ago hopefully I will behave myself at work!

I was 45 when I had my hysterectomy and also was not allowed hormones.   The only time I got hot flashes was around the time my alarm would ring for me to get up.   Sometimes stress brought on some hot flashes.  But they weren't too bad.  Then it went away for awhile.  And just recently started to come back.  I am 52 years old now.

Feeling good

I am a bit panicky right now, I went to Ga to visit my Dad and we got an unexpected 5 inches of snow here in the Mountains, I have to get back to Charlotte tomorrow some how since my 2nd opinion doctors appt is at 10 am Monday morning. The 2nd opinion is due to those positive washings. Then of course I'm to be at work for my first day back right after the appt. The usual way I go is a 5 hour drive, I think I can make it home going a different way but will be an 8 hour drive. What fun!!!! 

I guess as long as I can get home I shouldn't be a complainer though!

Hormones

The way our bodies are supposed to work is that the adrenals start to make estrogen when your ovaries stop.  Unfortunately, in this day and age, most of us suffer from adrenal fatigue and this doesn't happen.  I've had good success managing menopausal symptoms with accupuncture, Chinese herbs, and adrenal support.

I had a total historectomy in 09 and YES there is immediate menopause, had hot flashes for a while but the mood swings were what I had a problem with , had one PC doctor that said you keep ending up in tears when you come in here , I didnt know what was going on at the time as my oncologist did not help me in any way with the aftermath of the operation. finaly got a PC doctor that understood and took time with me and also FNIALY got an oncologist who sat me down and answered every question and asked me how I was doing with this that and the other things, I found after the fact if mood swings start, calm down , breathe, hard to do I know ! and tell the person you have to deal with sorry , medical menopause , that helped a lot of people who had to deal with me , and no estrogen replacement or anything like that is not the way to ever go. as my new oncologist said , "this too will pass" and it has took a while but no hot flashes no mood swings (well unless I am talking to the cable or phone company!!!) praying for you

How are you now

Mine was in March and I had complications, I had to an ileostomy as well and part of my colon is gone and 3 months later they reversed my ileostomy thank God,   i was trying to recover and managed to mess up my back and hip with bursitis.  My nurse was great, the doctors were used to save my life but really need to learn how to help patients after, so much they did not tell me and I freaked a lot.  When I got the nurse a lot went away because she was awesome but she could not even believe them.  I know its scary and hope all went well.

Life After TAH is horrible

Had TAH last year today I'm still in pains cause of complications stomach pains feel something moving inside where operation was done lots of weight loss and all funny symptoms and no1 is able to help went to see lots of Gaeno and GPS any help online and also something inside pelvic area and chest
