    what to ask/expect

    Hi there,

First off, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Within the past few months I have experienced the same things (Finding mass on routine x-ray, pulmonologist, etc.) I know exactly what you are feeling and wouldn't wish it upon anyone. I think it's the fear of the unknown more than anything. Your pulmonologist will probably have you do some additional testing to confirm the nodule isn't something else like a fungal infection for example. I have a 6cm mass and I had a TB test, another CT scan and blood test completed before anything else was talked about. Make sure to ask your doctor about these possible alternatives...there are a lot out there and it will help ease your mind a bit.    Are you having any symptoms? This would be another item to discuss. Remember to be your own advocate! You should ask even the smallest question, even if it seems unimportant. Also, if you are anything like me, I like to know what to expect from any long-term process. Your pulmonologist should be able to tell you what to expect over time, like what tests you will have and the general timeline.

A 1cm nodule is no joke but it's still small and it sounds like you found it early. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me.  It is very helpful.  I hadn't thought about asking for a timeline - seems like a good framework to help me get a handle on things.

Yes. I got this on time.  Going to the doctor later this morning.  Great resource.  Thank you for sending this my way, it is just what I was looking for.

So I went to the doctor on

So I went to the doctor on Thursday.  Will be getting a CT on the entire lungs next Friday.  The nodule was found incidental to a CT of the abdominal area.  Next appointment a week after the CT scan.  It was very reassuring to actually see what the nodule looked like on the scan.  I'm hopeful that I may be one of the lucky ones.
