Has anyone ever heard of Taxol every week for 8-10 weeks?

She thought this was the easiest chemo she was on. Is this what they are suggesting for you. What were the results of your PET scan? Hope you are feeling less tired.
They call it "dose dense" the dose each week is less so fewer side effects in theory but over the course of the month you actually get more of the actual drug. The other reason to administer weekly is to try and kill the rapidly dividing cancer cells more frequently than every 21 days. I also had radiation daily x 5 wks at the same time I received the weekly chemo. It was suppose to make the chemo work better. Susan0 -

To treat my 2nd recurrence last September the docs decided on a regime of weekly taxol and carbo for 3 weeks and then a week off. Each of these cycles is considered one session of chemo. It went well for the first two sessions but at Christmas things began to deteriorate - I was not recovering quickly enough each week. I did manage to get in the first treatment of the 4th cycle but then the body crashed - no enegy, etc. etc. They stopped chemo for a couple of weeks so I would be strong enough for a CT scan and a consultation. At the consultation last Friday I learned that the cancer is subsiding - so the chemo worked. But the body couldn't take any more right now. Mixed results!
So I am now just lolling about hoping to recover from the aches and pains (mostly legs) and weakness. I will need more chemo in the future but no one can predict when that will be. So far this week I really haven't noticed any improvement - hopefully that will come soon.
I was told that for me the Taxol is not the most important drug as Carbo does most of the dirty work. Probably different for each case.

So far ...I will be 2 yrs out in Feb. next appt Feb 6th. Always makes me hold my breath. Unfortunately my CA 125 is not a good marker for me. Was low when diagnosed and remains low still. So it is a matter of staying positive, trying to eat well, exercise and manage stress hoping all things will be OK. Most people with UPSC get Taxol and Carbo. I went Taxol only with weekly administration based on an MD Anderson study that showed as effective or more effective results than both together. In the end it was a good decision for me because I did get neuropathy. After the 5 weeks of taxol I went on 4 cycles of 21 day Taxol. Ended up being changed to Taxotere after 2 doses because of the neuropathy. I did take Nupegen weekly to keep white count up. Managed to get all treatments in on schedule. Take care. These are hard decisions to make.0
