Dangers of flouride

Most everyone of you ladies is way ahead of me on all things but yesterday I went to a dentist that is fairly progressive on new ideas for health and well being. I went in due to the link of mouth health and cancer, also because I have one failing tooth that is a root canal tooth and there is a link between that and cancer too. Once again I have put my teeth in the back of the line to everyone else in the family always. I will spend 3 hours in the dental chair tomorrow and then another two hours in the next few weeks to catch up on that. This dentist also wants me to get the root canal tooth and another pulled by an oral surgeon when I can afford that bill!

Anyway, with him having the knowledge that two weeks ago I had a hysterectomy due to uterine cancer here is what he said.

DO NOT drink tap water ever! Bring your water in from another source as long as it is free from flouride, DO NOT use flouride toothpaste! There are a few on the market that exclude it, I forgot to get the names but if anyone needs me to I will get them and pass it on. DO go to the dentist regularly to make sure there arent any problems in your mouth with inflammation, due to it being a cancer trigger.

I knew all this and have been trying to bring water in but that can be a pain, he doesn't even want me to brush my teeth with tap water!!!! I hadn't changed my toothpaste either. He believes that the government will have to remove flouride from public water supplies in the next 10 years because of all the studies pointing to it causing all kinds of illnesses. My husband and I knew about the oral health and heart link for years and I  pushed him into the office every 6 months due to that but I haven't been for about 5 years, I have a huge dentist phobia but yeah ME, I have found a dentist to cater to that and me. Lisa is now up front with everyone else to take care of herself!!!!!!

    Go Lisa!

Finally taking care of yourself as I can relate...always worry about everyone else around me.

You're right on with no flouride in toothpaste and water. I've stopped the toothpaste with this ingredient and found a few good ones, but do read the labels to read "NON-FLOURIDE".  One is Tom's, as they as well offer other products such as mouthwash, floss, etc.  I have found Trader Joe's to have a good t-paste, too.

Root canals?  Yes, we need to get those babies out of our mouths.  I've heard of them still having some of the old nerves which cause inflammation, leading to cancer.  Why take the chance as to why many dentists as you've found suggest having the root canal removed and just do without a tooth.  I on the other hand did a root canal prior to cancer, which didn't work (heck who knows if that was the start of my cancer journey) and had it all removed.  Only option was an implant...now bet that isn't good but when one drills a screw into the jaw and does some major work, I'll not have it removed...have to take my chances.

From what a good friend who is a dental hygentist suggested, our mouths hold an awful lot of disease as the temperature in our mouths are close to 90+ degrees which can cause disease, etc.  She has always told me, take care of your teeth as well as we do to our bodies...going to dentist twice per year for exams and floss and brush a few times per day.  Suggests we brush after each meal or when we snack as the food particles stay on our teeth which can cause decay which can turn into inflammation.  As well suggest if we cannot brush our teeth after meal/snacking, chew sugar-free gum with "xylitol".

What is the dentist suggesting you do now, have the root canal tooth removed?  As well watch the fillings as many contain "mercury".  My dentist has been in practice for some 30 years and know he's not up on this stuff as when I mention to  him about mercury in the fillings and what my options are....he simply looks at me with a blank stare.  Luckily I've come to him with my research and basically told him this is what I want and will not go with the certain fillings, etc.  If he wouldn't work with me, heck I'd be looking for another doc.

Lastly, while on the dentist subject, when they do xrays every 6 months, be sure to ask for the large covering over the chest to have a collar to go around the neck.  We do get some amounts of radiation off these xrays, but not nearly enough.  In my mind, best to be safe vs. sorry!

Now that I'm thrown all this out there, remember do all of this in stages.....I didn't go out one day and have all the teeth pulled which had root canals nor pay big bucks for a home safe water system.  It takes time, but Lisa I give you HIGH MARKS, as you're right on this girl....

    water

    Lisa/Jan

look up zero water.  Years ago we wanted to purify our water so we bought a zero waterstand alone water filtration system,  It isn't a whole house one but holds water and filters your water to close to 0 purities.  We only drink this and when i make tea, cook etc.  we use that water.

it wasn't overlly expensive and has the best tasking water.  We have thought about the entire house but haven't gotten there.

Could you take a minute and let us know what types of fillings you've found to be safe? I was aware of the mercury problem, but then couldn't quite get a handle on which of the plastic? or other materials were safe. Biggest wham I had was learning that the worst thing you can do is combine mercury with gold, in seperate fillings in your mouth, as they increase the harmful effects of each other.

    Thanks,

Implants no problem per my dentist

He told me to have the rootcanal removed due to the crown around it failing anyway and the remainder of the tooth is breaking, he said he doesn't push anyone to have the root canals pulled unless they bring it up with him. He said after the root canal is  removed and the place has healed you can have an implant because the material in that is safe and no problems if your jaw bones are healthy.

Due to the cancer link he said he refuses to do root canals any more. Yes they used the aprons with the high collars before the xrays.

He also spent several minutes on a neck and inside mouth cancer screening. Tomorrow they also remove two mercury fillings and replace with new material, he has a special removal system so not only I won't be subject to any mercury during removal but he and his nurse are also protected. I forgot to mention that, the next go around he has two others to remove and replace.

Oh he also will not due X-rays every year since I was worried about even more exposure.

I won't be able to afford a water system but I go to my fathers in GA every month and he has a well. I will be hauling drinking water back and forth for sure. His water is tested and pure.

I knew you would already be up on this stuff Jan!

My dentist is called a biological dentist - read below

The IAOMT is a group of dentists, physicians and researchers involved in peer-reviewed scientific research, education and the promotion of biological dentistry. The IAOMT encourages the use of biocompatible materials and the development of appropriate protocols to ensure whole-body patient health. The tenets of a good dental practice should be based on peer-reviewed research – not on conventional wisdom. Most importantly, the materials and procedures used in dentistry should not adversely affect the rest of the body.

Don't have a lot of time to search my files, but did find the attached link below which might give you some information.  I definitely know MERCURY is out, but what we used I'm not sure as thinking it had some type of plastic in it???  Don't think silver is good either, but gold is so, so expensive who'd go there.

Let me know what you find and I'll keep searching my files as bet it's in paper form, but need to get my act together as have next dental appt end of February.

    Root Canals

I had one root canal several years ago, but they drilled  the tooth to do it and I now have a  crown over that tooth -- there wasn't much left, not enough to pull.  What is it they are trying to remove?

My luck, I am a Medicare/Medi-Cal patient and they've taken dental care away from us, so that I cannot afford to have dental work done without insurance.

Oh yes, I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer last spring, had my hysterectomy 2 months later, staged Gr 1, Stage 1A, no further treatment needed.  I have my first Oncology follow up next week and will go every 6 months for 5 years.

What else should I be doing?

    Mercury removal

When he took out the fillings it was an interesting procedure. They stretched a flexible piece of rubber around the tooth that also went across both sides of my mouth keeping any thing from going into my esophagus, I also had a nose cap that gave me oxygen since he cut off the ability to breath through your mouth so you don't inhale any of the mercury into your body. The dentist and nurse both had masks on and as he removed the filling it was all sucked into a hose.

    Don't let me worry you

My teeth needed a lot of work done due to neglect on my part. Since they were already doing several procedures I went ahead and had them replace some old fillings with newer versions. There is some research that root canals can be a possible link to cancer, but my dentist said not all root canals are the same either, mostly it depends on the technique the dentist used.

There is a lot you can look up but I think one of the main things is to keep a healthy mouth and have your teeth and gums maintained on a current bases not letting things fall by the wayside and cause issues in other parts of your body. I have been bad but am now up to date on all the work that needed done.
