Appetite
Hi all,
Have completed 18 radiotherapy treatments and 1st round of chemo. Due to start second round of chemo Tuesday with 10 more radiotherapy treatments. I have had to start using analgaesia regulary over past 4 days and now have lost my appetite. Anyone else experience this? Also my ALT levels are raised, but consultant thinks that could be due to medication taken last week for vaginal thrush. Feeling so unlike me at the moment.
Thanks, Liz x

Hi Liz--
My appetite took a serious nosedive at about the same point you are at. I tried all kinds of things, including Boost and other nutrition supplements. I just couldn't get anything down towards the end of treatment. It's really hard. You should try to eat anything that tastes even half-way good to you. Anything with lots of protein would be very good, but just eat what you can get down. Hang in there, you are almost done!

Appetite....
I also had NO appetie, or at least couldn't keep anything down at that point. I remember my radiation doctor would always be saying "well, how are you getting folates?". Honestly, I liked her a lot, but every time she would say this kind of like she was yelling at me! I did though keep that "Naked Juice" Green Machine and Boost or Ensure in the fridge and take sips of each throughout the day. Eventually the lack of nutrition caught up with me and along with some other complications had to be hospitalized. There, I was put on TPN, an IV nutrional supplement via my port. A cold milkshake with banana works for some. I'll be thinking of you, and praying things improve soon.

I have been trying to eat little & often today starting off with forcing some toast down & that seems to be OK. Also using ice lollies as they somehow help too. Dreading the next part to be honest, but 1 week Friday my treatment will be done & dusted (providing that no complication develop on the way). I can't thank you enough for your support and advice along the way. Imagine no internet????

Do you think you could tolerate some peanut butter on that toast? It would give you some protein and also calories if you are losing weight.
As for no internet, I was on dial-up during my treatment. Because my computer was so slow, I was on no support sites. It was lonely.

Liz,
I think this is pretty common for all of us. As previously stated, eat anything and everything that evens sounds palatable. Also remember trying to go for old comfort stand by foods and they just did not taste the same. i wondered if food would ever be appealing again. It did. Hopefully this wil pass for you as well. You are almost ready to start that recovery chapter, what a great accomplishment. This is one heck of a great group here.
