Elevated CEA...more Chemo...Lost Job...Help
Today was a bad day. My recent scans show more cancer, CEA highest ever and today I was Laid off. Unemployment and no insurance is very scary.
I live and work in Californiia. I moved here for a new career in 2011. All seemed well until today.
I want to pursue Legal recourse for Cancer/Insurance cost discrimination.
Anyone have experience? Know a good attorney in San Diego?
HELP!
Mike

sounds like a bad day
dear mike, i will try and follow my own advice to you. i got cea and pet results monday arvo. so having a plan or approach for challenging news is important.
now the worse the news the more important. my current answer is to journalise ie blog it, or post it here.ask for help.
if it means anything, we dont have to go this alone and a worry shared, is a load lifted from my shoulders. i hope this works for you.
you can also help someone else, something as simple as a reply here. i also find prayer and meditation helpful.
just a few emotional suggestions. others here will chime in on the practicalities.

So sorry
So sorry to hear that you are having such problems.
If you are wanting to file for wrongful termination due to your cancer diagnosis, you need to start with http://www.eeoc.gov/
If you have not been terminated, but only laid off that may be a different issue, but I would start with the eeoc.
If you are stage 4 you need to go to your local social security office to file for disability benifits and also check our Medical.
These are things you can do on your own without an attorney.
Wishing you good solutions.

Yes...this is crappy day for you...:(
If I lived in San Diego I'd grab a bottle of wine and sit on the beach for the rest of the day. Tomorrow though I'd start brain-storming about what direction to take. I'm sorry, I can even begin to imagine how you must feel right now, especially with your health insurance on the line. Did your company know you have cancer and need the health insurance? I hope people here have some good ideas for you and I hope that everything works out for the good.
In the meantime, I'm sending you only positive thoughts and good wishes. Wish I could help you more.
