Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

I have been reading articles lately on the positive results, and a few not so, of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on improving tissue damage from pelvic radiation. Just wondering if anyone has any personal experience or knowledge of this therapy.

    HBO treatment

    I know of a couple of people who have undergone HBO therapy for radiation damage.  However, I cannot speak as to the results that were achieved (or not achieved).

    Thanks, some of what I've heard sounded really positive especially on damage that was still there a couple years after treatment ended, and, with lasting results. Don't know if its anything that would ever be an option for me but may be of help to some.

    been meaning to ask

    i keep forgetting to ask my docs at MD Anderson about using hyperbaric for radiation damage but forget each time...  i decided that if they thought it would help us , they would have told me about it.   md anderson is really trying to improve the side effects and to learn as much as possible .... it might be that they are afraid that the oxygen would feed any cancer cells or something.  i will try to remember to ask.   sephie

    You could be right. Some articles did discuss the use after treatment for cervical,vulvar, anal and several other pelvic cancers, although stated that the patient MUST be NED with no chance or limited of recurrance. I think thats a hard call to make. It seems its use is still relatively new in treating later damage from pelvic radiation so may learn more in time.
