Is IP Port an option only with first line chemo?

I did not have IP during first line treatment last year.  I was just curious as to whether or not it is an option now that I have a recurrence.

    Hi Carla,
    I asked my Dr about an IP port when I had my recurrence and he said it wasn't an option now. Things may have changed but that was the response I got at the time. Good luck and Happy Healthier New Year!

    My oncologist agrees

    I finished 5 months of IV/IP in November, and had the IP catheter removed December 13. It caused me no problems and I asked if I could just leave it in. What if I have a recurrence? I don't want another procedure to replace it. But my oncologist said IP is only for the first occurrence.  Whatever happens with the cancer, we won't be doing IP again.
