GYN/ONC kept results from me
I went for the last appt prior to surgery on the 7 th with OBG/ONC and asked her to confirm in person that my CT results were negative for problems since a nurse had given me the info verbally over the phone. She confirmed with a smile and asked if I would like a copy and jumped up to get one.
After she handed it to me she continued on talking about the surgery, I was glancing over the report and got a cold chill. Clearly right there the report said I had a lung nodule and I should get a full Lung CT scan since this one just showed the lower portion of my lungs. When I got my voice back I showed it to her and asked her why she didn't mention it. She said not to worry that that didn't have anything gynecological to do with it and later after my surgery I could call my GP and schedule another scan if I wanted to.
This is suppose to be the best doctor around. I had two other doctors say that she is the best in town. I am devastated especially after reading on the Internet that these nodules are often cancer after age 50 or older. I turned 50 in February. I put a call in to my GP and he is to call back tomorrow. I don't think I want to go into surgery without knowing the whole picture. Now this may cause me to push the surgery off and also go to jail for being mean mouthed to a certain surgeon. I was so lady like this afternoon but now feel a little like Thelma and Louise! SNIFF!

I compeletly understand being
I compeletly understand being upset. What size is the nodule? I had 2 show up but they were considered "junk".. I did have a follow up in 3 months and they stayed the same size so its not considered a concern.
My Dr. did say, like yours, he didn't think it was anything. Just "junk". But its always important to follow up.

Try not to jump to conclusions as many of these things on CT's aren't anything to be concerned about. I had CT right after treatments which showed something on my liver. Darn...so off to have MRI which showed yes a spot on liver but nothing to do with cancer. Doc simply watches this after scans to see if it changes in size.
CT scans are needed, but at times show more then we need to know,,,,most of the findings aren't a true "health scare".
Must tell you from experience, go to bat for yourself, no matter how "good" and qualified your doc might be. I truly don't trust any of them 100%, as to why I do my own resarch and come to appts with a sheet listing my questions and concerns. This way I'm more prepared and feel more in control. Plus, docs are humans, too and do make mistakes and overlook important things.
Best to you,
Jan

Laura25, to answer you,it was a 6mm nodule.
You both helped me calm down.
I called my GP and he has scheduled an appt this coming Monday to discuss what to do next with the CT report. His nurse called to calm me down and let me know he will keep on eye on every single test from now on and will be my constant backup. That made me feel better. Fortunately my docs have access through a shared computer system.

I had a similar experience from my Chest X Ray that my pulmonary dr saw something she didn't like. The next thing I was getting was a Chest Cat scan that presented similar results on the thyroid. Felt like it was a domino affect happening. My Chest cat scan was ordered by a pulmonary dr as I needed cleareance before surgery on some breathing concerns. When she read the report she shared the notes on the thyroid and suggested I talk to my GP for next steps. My GP reviewed and ordered a follow up test. Did that and similar to the other ladies found it was nothing along with the Chest Cat Scan. When I went for follow up testing I was told that when the read the Cat Scans they need to note everything they see. Tthe process of seeing these results is stressful but as you navigate through them and find that things work out you than feel complete that items were followed up and not ignored. Let's hope this is the same for you.
I am glad you followed up with your GP and he is very supportive. It is helpful to have a GP like that to help you navigate. It get's very stressful to follow all these reports. I have myself similar to the other ladies started an organized binder of every report and read through them to ask questions. I organize questions for each appt iin advance to help me keep in control.
Another thing that has helped me is to always have an extra set of all test results as well as copies of CD's of the CT Scans. You never know who would like to have the actual CD's
Hope things are settling back at home with your husband home and you are starting to enjoy some time together.

I believe men are the worst patients!!!!! Yep that rolling of the eyes and getting caught can sure upset the patients as well.
Tomorrow is a new day, and hoping he's more pliable and you're able to wrap him around your finger. Yummie foods always were helpful with my husband.

Your doctor's comment that "it wasn't gynecological" is bizarre to me. My uterine cancer has metastisized in my lymph system and I was treated for uterine cancer near my throat. Until an area is biopsied no one can say what it is. Cancer does metatasize to organs too. And for your doc to just dismiss those lung masses as nothing gynecological without checking it out let alone not telling you about it would be disturbing to me.
Any thoughts of a second opinion?? Not trying to shake your confidence in this doc but The term "best" is relative. We need to be a team with our healthcare providers and trust them. There has to be the right "fit". I and many here have gotten second opinions along the way. You are worth it.
Hugs to you, Mary Ann

I agree with Mary Ann.
Sometimes a small nodule showing up in a CT is nothing to worry about - but sometimes it is. Whoever said that everything on a CT scan gets carefully examined by the radiologist is correct - and if there are 2 CTs that can be checked against each other, any "changes" will set off the alarm bells.
On the other hand, there can be tiny spots that are just scar tissue or something else benign.
Always better to make sure it gets double-checked.

I have a 0.1cm nodule in my right lung that showed up on my CT scan. The results read Stable punctate 0.1 cm nodule in the right lung. This is most likely of prior infectious or inflammatory etiology. No new pulmonary nodules. It continues to be there on each one but always is the same size with no changes. My gyn onc dr watches it but thinks that it is due to a past flu or bronchitis infection. I use to be a smoker but have not smoked in over 23 years now but back before I quit I did get bronchitis a bit. So it might be nothing but have them watch it. trish

Laughter is the best medicine!!!!! Just had a good laugh, with my MD, I have been sick since Friday so it turned out to be a good thing I had an appointment. Turns out I have a mild case of pneumonia, taking care of hubby, then sick son coming home also needing taken care of and I end up with pneumonia!!!!! Gotta laugh, when the doctor told me I just started giggling while coughing in between. He sat there staring at me trying to figure out if I was then going to cry but soon realized he could laugh with me!!!! Okay home again with pills in hand and a note for the anithesiologist that I have my pre surgery intake with on Wed. It will be up to him if surgery is postponed or goes as planned on the 7 th.
Family MD man said he wants me to have surgery, hysterectomy first, then we will get a chest CT. He said like a lot of you ladies that it is so small that we may wait 3 months and then do it, if there are infected lymph nodes we I till do it immediately. The reason he came to that with my approval is I had 8 blood clots in my lungs 7 years ago, I have had 3 lung CTs due to that, he knows for a fact that 7 years ago I didn't have that nodule but the blood clots caused trauma and this could now be the result, scar tissue.
There was never a cause found for the blood clots, lots of tests were done. I feel better now that he is on my team with this as well as the cancer doctor. He thinks she will pay more attention to everything once the surgery is done and she sees the involvement. He also said she knows about everything on my plate and may not want to go there till she has too. I say if that's the case she is chicken!!!!!!!
Im off to rest now.

So glad your pcp is involved. Mine was my rock during my ride 2+ years ago. Hope you can rest and recover from the pneumonia so you can get on with the New Year and your surgery.

Darn it...when it rains it pours, at least in your case. How many times haven't I heard about the care givers who end up falling down, when we're all hoovering over the patients.
Breath in deep and get some good, needed rest. Be kind to yourself and get well.

I have been readingHi Lisa!
I have been reading the posts and it sounds like you have way too much going on! I am hoping you can get some rest over the upcoming weekend and we can be surgery buddies on Monday! I am starting to get a little nervous and would like to have someone to bounce off of the next few days. I am going to try and keep as busy as possible to keep this off my mind, but I imagine that might be difficult Sunday when I have to do the colonsocopy type cleaning!
I think we all get to the point where we are so overwhelmed we don't know if we should laugh or cry and don't know what is going to come out when we get to the breaking point. I prefer laughter over the crying!
What area of the country are you in? I am freezing here on the East Coast and actually am looking forward to being bundled up in bed for a few days having my family wait on me! Gotta look at the positives, right? It's gonna be my time to **** and moan....not that I don't already have that down to an art some days!
all the best!

I have been told that I'm released for surgery since the lungs have improved but the only pre-requisit to surgery was no food or drinks after midnight, there wasn't any bowel cleaning out like you mentioned. I'm going to only have liquids on Sunday just to make sure.I may run some of the green junk through me That the husband had to use before his surgery. I really haven't had much of an appetite due to nerves anyway.
I have been rushing around doing last minute things also, on my list is house cleaning and some yard work due to leaves that blew out from the woods. I'm in the Charlotte, NC area and truly our weather has been mild. my plan is to read the Hystersister website
early Saturday to learn some more nasty things I can expect.
I have also been trying to laugh as much as possible, I have told the Husband that his gravy train of being taken care of due to his surgery convalescence is OVER! He is starting to get nervous too. With what the ladies on this site have told me this isn't going to be that big a deal though. I have never been sick and never needed surgery so this is totally new to my head.

Hi Lisa!
Good news you were released for surgery! I swear this waiting around is the worst whether it's for test results or surgery dates!
I got a call from the hospital nurse who collects last minute medical data and she asked if I had ever been diagnosed with atrial fillibration? I told her I had not. She said that was what my pre-op EKG was showing so she has to call my cardiologist to talk to him. I am not under a cardiologist's care, but had a stress test done in 2010 after my mother died and I was having palpitations. The results were negative.
So now this...
Meanwhile, the hospital called and said I am scheduled for surgery 8am Monday morning. I hope everyone is communicating!
Have you gotten a sugery time?
I am headed out for an early dinner with my family tonite so I don't have alot to get rid of come Sunday cleansing! My appetite has been surprisingly small the past few days as well....
My poor husband has been pretty quiet the past few days so I can barely tease him about anything. We were watching a clip on GMA about a girlfriend who stabbed her boyfriend to death 27 times, and I warned him if he was not nice during my recovery that would be what happens to him!
Let me know how you are making out!

I must give you both credit...have a great attitude with your laughs. You know life can get pretty tense and scary, but when we break out the funnies, life is easier!
Go out and laugh a little more each day....it'll all be good in the end!!!! We're all here for you both and I know all will go very well, especially with your positive attitudes. I'm a very optimistic person and my OB told me at the beginning of my journey, "You'll come thru this with flying colors as you're so upbeat and expect nothing but the best outcome!!!

I will be back on the boards as soon as I am able. My wonderful sister is gifting me with a Kindle so I do not even have to get out of bed to access the internet. I plan to 'enjoy' my medical leave by lounging, reading as many books as possible, having family wait on me hand & foot (thank God they don't know about this board...lol), and focusing on ME for awhile. I have worked almost non-stop for 25 years and I am ready for a break even if I have to do it b/c of this diagnosis. Sometimes God works in mysterious ways!
Please keep me in your prayers Monday!
