Employee Discount

Well, I think I'm now getting the "Employee Discount" on those rare occasions when I actually eat something in the hospital cafeteria.

Husband has now been in there for 10 days and is in his third room. He was given clearance to move from the Telemetry Unit to the Liver/Kidney floor. His heart is functioning as well as it ever will. His kidney function is improving a little each day. I know he's been seen by at least 3 Kidney Specialists. They haven't quite got the Lasix adjusted to manage the kidney function without triggering the CHF. So, I think if the Creatinin levels will stabilize, he will be able to come home, hopefully in the next couple of days. He was finally able to get out and walk in the hall today, with a walker. They wanted to send in a physical therapist and he told them he didn't need any more doctors involved. 

Since it was the CT contrast dye that caused all this, MDA will have to use an alternate plan. So, I'll contact them again when he's out to see if he can still be treated, given these new issues. Onward and Upward!

hospital food (Not missing it)

I have had so much cafeteria food in the last six months.  It is ok, but it got very tiring.  I am glad your husband is starting to get better.  We has a lot with the kidney problems.  It is amazing how much fluid they can put through a person in a day.  I am praying you get home soon and can get your treatments.

I had to laugh at your "butt" comment. Now, would that be cancers' butt or each others? After all, 40 years is a long time to live with someone. LOL

The nutritionist came by yesterday and asked if there was anything she could do to help since he's not eating. I told her "When it smells like $hit and tastes like $hit........She said she understood completely and that I could bring him food, just stay away from potassium. Funny, this has been voted the "best" hospital in Arizona. The judges just missed the kitchen. LOL

Kitchen's often missed

I guess they must think sick people don't feel like eating anyway.  LOL  I hope you are able to entice him with sometime he is willing to eat.  I got David to eat some trail mix yesterday with assorted nuts.  It wasn't a lot, but I was awful glad to see him put something in his mouth.  I would love to be able to wean him away from the two cal formula through his tube.  I want him to be able to eat and enjoy food through his final days here on earth.  He so used to love to eat and his last real meal was September 18.  He hasn't had a meal he really has to chew since July 25.  I am getting a speech therapist to come to the house to help him with his eating fears and the OT is going to work on his trunk strength so it will be easier to eat.  I hope your hubby is still responding to treatment and you get out soon.

Moving right along....

Sending positive thoughts that the creatine levels get stablized, and he'll get to go home....10 days in the hospital would start getting to anybody (caretaker and patient alike)! 

You said the other day that the food there was awful....even the cafeteria....You'd think that MDA would have some decent cooks, wouldn't ya?  I spent 7 days in the hospital here, before treatment (punctured lung from the port)....they darn near have gormet here....really....choices for meals range from chinese and mexican, to all American (meatloaf/mashed potatoes and such)...to healthy (salmon and lemon sauce, etc).....not as good as home cooking, but getting there.  Their soups were delish.  At least you can start bringing him some home cooking and maybe get some weight on before the start of treatment....

I'll bet there are alternatives to the contrast dye they used....at MDA they have seen just about everything there is to see.
