I'll Mention It..
I think it's partially due to not having to log out now. When I logged out, and back in, It notified me I had one. Email me back to see if it let's me know you replied...

I sent one back to you, but
I didn't get a notification....so I guess we gotta log in and out in order to see if we have one....so much for woo hoo'ing over not having to log in everytime we close the browser.

Expressions...
I know some of the photos don't work in my expressions now.

One thing that was discussed when the upgrade was considered, was also to see if we could get notified when someone replied to an expression.

I'll have to check that out later.

that's a bug.
and a ridiculous one. I ain't logging out and logging back just to check for notifications, that's even worse than before the 'upgrade'.

and another one:
if we want to respond to multiple points in the original posting, we're going to hit reply to the original posting--so we can reference the facts while writing. that means we'll continue to have recent postings at the top, not the bottom. it's a mess.

right now they're using us as beta testers for an unfinished product.

Hey,

Since I am new I don't like to pull the hammer so early but this site has really serious issues. For those who have been here longer what is the deal? I mean the American Cancer Institute pulls more than a few coins in each year and it seems like the pennies falling through the crack get to this site for support.

Is there a real person you can get on the phone to go over the issues? I mean like saying you can put PHP code in line is the stupidest thing you can do. As long as I can offer some quality cycles I am more than happy to marshal resources to fix this site. It just so happens I build websites on Drupal, same as this site, and am connected to the community to get as much additional expert support as needed to clean this up.

heh, I got a kick out of the PHP thing too. like cancer survivors need to make database calls in forum postings?

all I'd hoped for was a fix for server performance probs. don't need any fancy bells and whistles in the forums.
but today I'm still hitting random "The server closed the connection without sending any data" errors, just like before. and the site is as slow as ever.
I'm missing the point of this upgrade. in some ways, it's worse than before.

agree - server issue

The primary performance issue seems to be low on server memory first. I think they need to up the PHP memory limit, get more real memory to back it up, and hopefully slow/stop the memory swapping. 

Since the database is not timing out, I think it is on the apache side. 

I don't know if that member online count is accurate and if it means members logged in, meaning those that can post. Typically, a drupal site that has anonymous visitors, those not logging in, can take much greater advantage of caching mechanisms as all their access is read only. So if you have 30 members online and that reprsents both logged in and non logged in users, the server is clearly way underpowered, as the load is not that much at all.

Maybe we can get a real person response to put some focus and prioroty on it as there are many here who really find this group a life line to their real lives on a daily basis.

And lastly, since the ball is rolling now, how on earth can they keep the site up as is and not rolled it back when they knew real user data had gone missing? I mean, emails just going POOF? In the real world. ppl lose jobs over this sort of less than stellar performance.  The golden rule in IT is "do no harm" much as in medicine. In other words, have a contigency plan that is proven, push forward, and if things fail, back out to where you started. After 30 years in enterprise IT, I never had to stand and account for going backward on a production system.

In many ways, it's a lot worse....

But each day I see improvement.

Emails.. ~ PM's

Well, technically I wouldn't consider them emails in the sense of traditional and personal emails. To me they are more inline with stored private messages on a server, that we are members of and provided a space to communicate. I don't really see where they (CSN) has any responsibility of protecting private messages on their servers and their space.

Yes they are personal to us, but ACS or CSN could pull the plug at anytime, without any explaination or apology.

I'm glad that they have the site and area available, giving me the opportunity to share and contribute to others (and me from them)...all while they foot the bill, never interfering or soliciting. I think that is pretty darn generous actually.

Just my thoughts anyways...

BTW, I think the historical PM's are being worked on..

Let's use the word miracles accurately

The techical, functional, and data issues related to this site are all man-made and all fixes are man-made repairs to a botched upgrade, not miracles. If you had put a  I would not have bothered but for some reason I kind of think you sort of meant it.
