hysteroscopy scheduled
Here's my story: 53 yrs old and went 13 mos without having my period. Figured that was the end of that. Then had 3 day bleeding episode. Saw my gyn, had transvaginal sono. Sono showed endometrial lining of 1cm and a nodule in lining of endometrium, along with multiple fibroids. Then my pap came back abnormal, showing atypical glandular cells of endometrial origin that favor neoplastic process. Had a endometrial biopsy in dr's office last week and report came back normal. Started bleeding again this weekend, having alot of pelvic pain and pressure. Saw dr today and am scheduled for hysteroscopy on 1/4. Trying to stay calm. Even dr was surprised at biopsy results. So still waiting for answers and hoping for advice and to hear others stories. I am 3 yrs post op for a benign brain tumor so I feel like I am back on another journey. Thanks for listening!

I had some trouble getting diagnosed, and ultimately had to have a D&C to get diagnosed. The important thing is that you are in the process! May it turn out to be nothing, or at the very least to be resolved quickly and easily with surgery!0 -

Try to not worry until you know something for sure...easy to say, I know. I'm 52, had surgery in June 2011 where it was found I had appendix cancer (tumor was contained in appendix so no more treatment just follow-up with onc). Anyway, since that surgery, my periods stopped completely (they had been regular up to then). After 9 mos, had 2 periods within 3 weeks. Dr. did transvaginal ultrasound which found a 4.5 cm mass on right ovary and endometrial stripe was thick for someone post menopausal. Had a D&C, hysteroscopy, and right oophorectomy. Everything came back benign. Dr. (and I) were concerned this was a mets from the appendix. Very relieved it wasn't, I think the majority of time, it is benign but anyone who is older and has abnormal bleeding needs to be checked out. Stinks that you have to wait till Jan. 4. After the ultrasound, I had a month wait until the d&c, hyster, and oophorectomy. Not fun but I try not to worry until closer to the time Good luck and keep us posted. Ruffy0 -

Is it common to have mixed reports on the way to being diagnosed? It's just so frustrating. I can deal with making decisions- it's the not knowing that's so hard.0 -

Did you have all three procedures done at the same time? My doctor will be doing a D&C with the hysteroscopy. How long does it usually take to get the pathology reports back? After a 9 hour brain surgery and losing my hearing on the surgical side (in order to cut out the whole tumor), I feel like I am back on a roller-coaster:(0 -

Yes, I had all three procedures done at once in the hospital (4/12). Surgery was on a Thursday, and the doctor got the results on Tuesday the next week. I don't know how successful the D&C and hysteroscopy were since my uterus is extremely retroverted and I had severe cervical stenosis so she wasn't able to get through the cervix (I got the surgical report that's how I know this). My guess is the thickened endometrium was from the period. The mass on the ovary turned out to be a corpus luteal hemorrghagic cyst. Like I said, the surgery in 2011 put me in menopause and then everything got messed up.
Actually, I think a biopsy only checks a small area, the hysteroscopy and d&c should give you a better idea. If that comes back normal, I would think you don't have anything to worry about. I did tell my dr, that if I bleed again, I'd rather have a complete hysterectomy w/left ovary removal. I don't want to keep having surgery and removing all my insides little by little! Worry is normal just don't let it take over... try to keep busy doing other things.0 -

Any chance that I will know something that day or should I just plan on waiting again:(

I don't know the answer to your question but waiting is the pits, isn't it. I'll have my fingers crossed for you Friday.

confused
I just received a call from my gyn that the pathology from my D&C came back clear. I should be relieved but I'm not. How can a pap that comes back as "pap came back abnormal, showing atypical glandular cells of endometrial origin that favor neoplastic process" be totally wrong? My gyn will sspeak to the lab that processed the pap and ask them to review it. She is also going to speak to a gyn oncologist to see if he/she thinks anything should be done. Today is 5 full days since my D&C. I had cramps and light bleeding for 36 hours and then was fine for 2 days-no cramps, no bleeding. Yesterday and today I have very bad cramps and lite bleeding. I'm usuaaly not a pessimist but I just feel that something is wrong. What else should I be doing? Should I make an appt with a gyn onc. on my own for an evaluation? I could use your help

Well, first thought is maybe the pap test was wrong if nothing else is showing up? Also you said earlier that you have multiple fibroids, are they going to remove those? Maybe they are the cause of the cramps and bleeding? Also, are you on HRT, I've heard this can cause some bleeding/spotting as well.
I'm going for an ultrasound next week for some pain and 3 weeks of spotting. So far I feel good that it isn't cancer probably just some quirky thing in the whole "shut down" system of menopause but we'll see. I'm planning on taking the results of the ultrasound for what it is and, hopefully, it's normal so I will ignore the sporadic pain (not long in duration or incapacitating). Maybe it is good to get another opinion. I never like to have the drs tell me who to see - I think they get "kickback's" from each other. But again I'm a little cynical and suspicious....
