National Institute for Health is great
I just had a workup yesterday and today for familial kidney cancer. My news was not great (they found a probably met.), but the staff there took the time to understand and seemed interested in me. I wish you luck. I take it you are in the DC area? If so, I would like to know who you DR's are. I am over in Northern Virginia. My surgeon is Dr. Todd Tescher, but he knew nothing about familial cancer.

Familial means that it is inherited. My Dad's dad died for RCC, my dad has it, and I have it. There thinking is, if they can figure out what happens with us, why we get it, they may be able to figure out all cases. Definitely good use of our tax dollars.

    In the family

Hi, going for my MRI today after they found a 2.9 cm mass in my left kidney when I presented with pain, just as my mom did. My mom (lived about 9 years post op) and dad (lived about 18 years post op) both died of RCC. I am terrified but optomistic. I have a boy about to go to college and a sweet 15-year-old girl who needs her mom. Please send prayers my way. I want them to work on the genetics, too, because I want my kids to know what they are up against. It is a bit insane. I was told for so long it wasn't really a genetic cancer. Now I see a lot of information that contradicts this. I am glad my doctor listened to me about my pain. Wish me luck!

    I wouldn't rule out the

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of environment or other factors as well, but I suggest a genetic test if you are concerned about it. Did your parents find it when they were younger too, I guess they found it in early stage too.

You should create a new thread and share your experience, take care :)
