Throat pain
The mouth pain has been somewhat manageable.
I do not have a peg tube. Dr's did not recommend one because they want me to use my swallow muscles. Too lengthy of an explanation but i understand their reasons and i agreed.
With 5 rads left, my throat is really sore. Feels like small pieces of glass when i swallow. Tends to go away just a little bit as i drink but still painful.
What over the counter, Rx meds or herbal stuff help ease this discomfort so i can get anything past my throat?

what worked for me
AJW1996,
I am sorry for your throat pain, but honest to God the Magic Mouth Wash worked miracles for me. It allowed me to keep swallowing, it allowed me to get to sleep, it allowed me to endure radiation treatments, for me, it worked and worked well. I would use from 2 – 10 mls at a time (using that funky little funnel, measuring device). I would sip, swish and swallow (little tiny swallows). I swallowed it almost every time and it never made me sick and I used it at will all day long. I also drank around 6 bottles of the stuff and the taste never bothered me (I could not taste). If it was up to me, the compounding pharmacy that prepared it should get an award and lastly when they handed me the bottle, it was over the counter.
I still have a bottle and you are more than welcome to drop in for a taste (which by the way, now tastes challenging).
Best,

thank youD Lewis said:Aloe
There is a pure aloe beverage available at most Health Food stores. Doesn't taste good, but very soothing. I drank it chilled.

And also pain patches and dilaudid for break thru pain. I'm a total light weight so I had to have my pain patches changed from the average dose down to the 12mg dose. Magic mouthwash was awesome by itself for quite a while but then I needed more. Don't be afraid of taking pain meds, you don't get any extra awards at the end of all this if you do it without them. My husband had to convince me of that. I for some reason was so against it but when I finally gave in I was happy I did. There is no reason to suffer anymore than we have to.
Good luck to you.
