Kidney constant dull pain

Hi everyone! Figured since I hadnt been on here in a few months I would check in. Been doing fantastic these last few months. Almost 9 months after having the tumor and grade 1 and 2 removed I have been all over the USA traveling, got a work promotion and have an awesome new boyfriend. The only thing that worries me is that I seem to have constant pain on the lower right side where half my kidney was partially removed. The doctor seems to not be concerned with it. The funny thing is that when I eat a lot it also hurts, assuming that its too much insides pushing on it. Maybe I need to lose some weight, but just wondering if anyone else has this feeling. It feels like the kidney is throbbing but like a constant dull pain. Doesnt seem to go away. I do drink more now, like on the weekends or some wine during the week. Lets hope I dont have to give up my wine or martinis. The doc said I should just live as if I never cancer.
I am super grateful for a successful surgery and getting past the worst of it. I hope all of you are doing well. Things get better. I cant believe it but I almost feel like getting cancer was a good thing for me. Now I am in a great place in life and feel like ti wouldnt have if something didnt happen.

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your good news, Amber - promotion, travel, new boyfriend and all!! Do you remember how helpless and woebegone you were when you were first here? You've certainly travelled a long way since then, haven't you!

Are you still making time to work out? Losing some weight would probably help reduce the dull pain. Likewise, taking it easy on your favourite junky food and not going too heavy on the booze.

Unfortunately some continuing dull pain is pretty common and a lot of us find eating little and often is better than having big meals. I'm finding normal meals making me feel bloated and giving pain but that's probably because the food is competing for abdominal space with a sizeable new tumour. However, a lot of folks who are cured, like you, still have dull pain in the surgical region for a long while and, you said it "Things get better" (not always true, but certainly should be for a young lady in your situation.)

It's not surprising that your doc "seems not to be concerned". First off it's not his pain! But also, it's because he can be confident thaat there's nothing for you to worry about.

Stay well and have a ball!

Yeah. Live like you never had cancer. Except better. Nice to hear of your success. Keep going. Or coming. Which ever way is good for you. Enjoy your renewed life. Some day the pain will be forgotten too.

Do you remember if you had it before the surgery ? It was the dull pain that made me force them to give me a MRI after the back pain subsided. I used to get it if I was running a little fever or was a bit constipated ... I was kind of wondering if mine would go away after the surgery . The dr's wanted to shoot it up with steroids right before the surgery but I told them if it still persisted after the surgery we would look at it !!!

    Congrats and good luck

    Thank you so much everyone!
I kept a journal when I got sick and through out the entire ordeal. Looking back and re reading it so sobering. I was in such a low and sad lonely spot. You all helped me not feel alone. I still have moments, the survivor guilt can be brutal. Does anyone else get that? Or I will randomly just think wow how am I alive and how did this happen to me and start to cry?! Zolof and Ambien have squared away my mental state, and I work with my psychologist to stay happy and positive.

Since I got my life back I have been hell bent on loving every day of it. Only problem is I might of loved a few too many calories and have put on a few pounds. Goal is to get back into working out and eating less and more often. Having a new man in my life did not help my working out or waistline lol. As for drinking I have the idea that if I drink tons of water and try to be very healthy during the week the libations are okay. I strangely have to justify everything I do and try to find meaning or closure. In a month I have a follow up and will be getting the results from my chest xray and blood work. My surgeon refuses to blast me for an mri due to radiation and I seem to be prone to cancer, since I randomly got it. I agree but still pray every day that it doesnt come back, or I get another type.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Dull Pain
Hi everyone, have been reading and keeping up with you and have not posted anything recently. Have been doing fairly well since surgery at end of August. My concern is I have this constant pain in my back where part of kidney was removed and I have not taken any pain meds for weeks and I have had to have pain meds for past 3 days. Just dont like to take them as they make me feel like im on the ceiling lol. Im not over eating to cause fullness in abd have lost 15 lbs. I dont know if i should bother doc with this or not. Heating pad does help some, but finding it hard to do my chores for the pain. Any suggestions?????

Hi Brea, sorry to hear about
Hi Brea, sorry to hear about the pain. The surgery hasn't really been that long ago. It does take a while to heal. That said, hopefully you are following up regularly with the oncologist. I would be sure to go and mention the pain and weight loss. Do they follow up with full body pet/ct scans? What did the doctor suggest? I don't recall your path reports but certainly any pain and weight loss should be evaluated. It could be nothing but it is best to know for sure, it will ease your mind as well. Hope it goes well! Please keep us posted.

    dull pain
I did call today and spoke with one of the docs and he wants me to try muscle relaxers as he thinks I could have some spasms going on in my back. If that doesnt help then he wants me to come in for check up. He said 3 months out since surgery he didnt think it would have anything to do with the surgery. I had 2 cm stage 1 grade 2 with clear margins. So will try this and see what happens. Thanks angec for comment.

That is good, it was very
That is good, it was very small so things should go well! Maybe it is spasms. I hope the pain subsides. But it took my mom about six months for the pain to stop so it is still new. Thanks for keeping us posted. Stay well!
