4 Year scan comming up
I still use the term have, perhaps it is the ostomy bag that is a constant reminder and I still have my port. After surgery I asked my surgeon what my 5 yr survival chance was and his reply was exellent so I'm getting closer to all I expected. I declined post op chemo after one treatment that knocked the Hell out of me and said quality over quanity. I was 68 at the time and couldn't tolerate the effects.
I refuse to let cancer dictate my life and haven't change a thing as far as life style, eat the wrong things, drink beer every day and even took up smoking cigars. None of us are getting out of here alive so live the life as you want and let nature take its course. Been to too many friends funerals to let cancer stand in the way of doing what I enjoy and live on a daily basis avoiding long range planning other than estate. This attitude might not be for everyone but allows me to live stress free. Best of health to all Steve0 -
Had or have ?Maxiecat said:I am not yet NED...hopefully
I am not yet NED...hopefully when I get my PET Scan in Dec I will be close to saying had then have cancer.
Alex
At the moment I am NED and tell myself I had a bout with cancer. However we all have cancer cells in our bodies, so we all "have" cancer. Since I am NED that does not mean I am cured. Always in the back of my mind, every little twince or pain and the thought is there. So really, have or had depends on the moment. Something like the chicken and the egg I like to think?
For me it is still ... at this moment I HAD but also I have had.
Wishes everybody here to be NED,and have had
hugs, Marjan0 -
I asked that question of thedanker said:had or have
I don't know which section to put me in. I've been NED for 18 months. But does that mean I cannot have a met to my liver or lung some time in the future? Lets just say I am currently a cancer survivor. Doesn't that sat it all?
I asked that question of the doctor and was told. "say NED after cancer txs". Would anyone who hasn't been here understand?0 -
dear ruffy7
you almost always have circulating tumour stems cells, the little suckers that cause mets.
so it depends on your definition, its its big enough to measure on a blood test or ct well its clear you got it.
if you measured your ctc's and had a really low count or nil then i would say HAD.
i prefer the words just "the cancer" as one cell can put us in the box and stop all this fun we call life.
ultimately whatever definition brings you peace of mind. so my CTC are sky high, so i have the cancer now, its dieing as we speak!
hugs,

Good Topic
Hugs, I would say the little bugger ie c has the left the building for now. I would like to say had, but so many I have known have said had then it comes back again, just feel like I am tempting fate if I say that.
Just take each day as it comes and see.0 -

I couldn't have written your post any differnet....
Stage 4 and I am NED for two years and two months...I go to our local club to drink a few beers, talk to my friends, go to my cabin etc...I've had a few comments about how I should be "not doing this" or "start doing that..." funny though how most if not all of these people never had cancer....
I do take a few anti-oxidant suppliments and drink 4 cups of green tea everyday...but I still enjoy my pizza, wings, hamburgers and beer when ever I want...Enjoying life for as long as I can!
