rectal pain when hiking after 10 mins. I had it all RP, radiation, hormones

in Prostate Cancer #1
6 years ago I had RP - raised PSA - high gleason. 2 years later PSA up again - had radiation - 2 years later PSA up again - hormone treatment finally keeps PSA very low.

I am 72 and have always been very active and sporty. Only problem I now have is major rectal pain when walking for more than 10 mins. Pain relieved instantly by sitting but comes back with walking.
Anyone out there that may help? - I have been told radiation proctitus is the problem but nobody knows how to treat it?

    You should consult with a gastroenterologist. Scar tissue from radiation could be the cause but only proper tests may identify the problem. I suggest you get a total colonoscopy.
    I did radiation six years ago and experienced two years later similar symptoms at the urethra. The radiation also caused damaged to some of the nerves that control sensation when passing stool. I never experienced pain however I was positive to FOBT (faecal occult blood test) and that took me to a total colonoscopy which confirmed diverticulitis. This is caused by lost consistency (muscle) at the walls of the colon. Such could be as well damage from the radiation treatment.

    Thanks so much for your erudite reply. One of the first things I had done was a colonoscopy about 3 months ago - they found only 2 small "piles" which they removed - very painful procedure on its own - but this never helped in the least.
    The strangest thing about the ailment I have, is that pain builds rapidly as I walk beyond, say 5 mins, but resultant sitting gives instant relief - I can even think of what could possibly be the cause.

    Was any laboratory analysis done on the matter (piles) removed from your colon?
    Better to check it out. The way to treat proctitis is with diet. You should get advice on the foods that will help in alleviating the condition.
    In any case, it seems that posture is behind the pain you are experiencing. It could be a neuropathy problem or bone related, but your sensation is at the area of the rectum.
    Probably additional testing such as CT or MRI of the lower abdomen could provide you with an answer to the problem.
