pain after IMRT

Dear Sir,
My mother 63y is suffering 4A degree toncil cancer and undergone 36 IMRT radiation which was completed on 25 july 2012. two out of six chemo only could complete due to her blood count went very low. Her peg tube was removed very imediately after treatment due to infection. so she can drink liquid food only. There is heavy pain from the burnt area of toncil.Edoscopy results are showing very positive. Even after 3 months her pain is not getting cure and unable to take solid or spicy foods. Could you expain me the reason for this prolonged pain and what approach shall I take to recover this? How long does the pain last?

    What exactly do they see on endoscopy? By positive, do you mean she still has visible cancer, or are they seeing an area of ulceration from the radiation? When you say she has a burned area it sounds like she is still ulcerated from the treatments. If so, did they give her something to treatthat area to facilitate eating, like magic mouthwash? My ulcerations from radiation took almost five months to heal. They were pretty unpleasant, but a combination of pain pills and local therapy with magic mouthwash helped a lot.

    Thank you very much for your kind response. By mentioning endoscopy is positive, I mean that she has no cancer traces, there is only ulceration from radiation. The doctor advised from the beginning to use neem water as mouth wash and the same is using still. Neem water was very helpful to prevent fungal growth in mouth. To make eating more ease she is using a combination of honey and butter prior to food. Pain killers are making troubles always...... especially morphine. But no other way. As you mentioned that you took five months to heal it means my mother's case is quiet natural and normal.

    these ulcers can be pretty bad
    and the heaing is slow. Where does your mom live? There is a very helpful solution, that is made by compounding several products together. It can be formulated a number of different ways, but basically prvides numbing relief for a short period of time. Many of us have found this quite helpful when at this stage of things.
