I've been trying for about 70-80 oz/ day.
"everyone" ? - I'd guess hundreds of thousands of gallons; let's see, in America alone the number of nephrectomy survivors in a given year is approximately ..... x N, and elsewhere ..... ;-)
Anyway, my contribution would be something like yours, maybe rather more - I drink more than that in tea and coffee every day/night, plus grapefruit juice, milk, wine, the occasional beer and a fair amount of fluid intake via food.0 -

Sorry, individually.
Sorry, it was too much of a gift for me to resist (and, as you've seen, I'm with Oscar Wilde
- "I can resist anything except temptation").
I didn't intend to subvert a serious discussion with my levity and if you're lucky our waterman, Gary, will come visitng to redress the balance (more water gives a better balance, as you know - not that Gary's wet, of course, except, usually with tears of laughter).0 -

For what little i know about the proper amount of fluid consumption i do know a insufficeint amount might give way to developing a kidney infection so i guess its best to keep our kidney flushed0 -

A minimum of 8, 8oz glasses a day is a good rule of thumb, the more active you are the more you should drink on top of that. Water is the elixir of life, it is essential to all bodily functions and all organs (the ones we have left that is) so drink away. I have a half gallon mug that I fill with ice water every day and try to finish by days end, I drink about 32ozs additionally with meals and throw in a 20oz green tea just for the fun of it. I do spend a lot of time in the bathroom, but that's the only bad side effect.0 -

Is that what we're looking at under that ten gallon hat Gary?0 -

So we've noticed.
Your mood seems up; are we still talking water?0 -

The old addage was 8 x 8oz glasses, mugs, etc. The most recent report I saw (couple of months ago) was that the 64 oz number was more nebulous. There is fluid in fruits, vegies, pasta, and even meat. And fluid inclues juice, coffee, etc.
Bottom line: if you're thirsty, you should have drunk a little more. (I didn't say. "Get drunk, Gary.") As long as you are still peeing easily, your skin doesn't look like a prune, you're not constipated, and you feel hydrated most all the time, you're probably doing it right. Who's into lining up the glasses and counting them, anyway?
Good luck as you deal with this fun part of living.

Water Water
Both my urologist and my oncologist told me that I should be drinking (minimally) 8 - 8 ounce glasses per day - MOST of which should be just that - plain water. Coffee, fruit juices, etc. are OK but should be considered 'extra' - over and above the water.
For myself I've discovered that If I fail to drink my usual 8 / 8 every day, my labs will come back off - meaning my creatinine will have risen and GFR will have fallen somewhat. Those numbers stabilize (and improve) as long as I keep drinking the 8 / 8 or more.0 -

Liz, thanks for that revelatory information. As a kid I used to guzzle water all the time but these days I don't drink (plain) water at all - probably 1 glass a week at most. The great bulk of my intake is by tea and coffee and mostly in the form of rocket-fuel. i think I'll try to become that kid again.0 -
I could drink a nice big
I could drink a nice big bottle of water or 2....I just have to urinate more frequently0
