cancer, diabetes and how it affects blood sugars

this chemo really sucks! not only am i a cancer patient of hodgkins lymphmoa but i also have diabetes. the chemo has really messed with my blood sugar levels and now cause me to do insulin where as before cancer and chemo i was able to control my diabetes. now no matter what it is i eat my blood sugars just go crazy. i have to watch my carb intake i know but i am also on blood thinner for the blood clots that lead me to find and now be treated for the cancer. so i have to watch what i eat so as not to take my blood sugars up but also what i eat as far as green leafy veggies too. don't leave much room inbetween for what i can eat. this really is a pain. any suggestions

    Welcome Bruce
Welcome Bruce and sorry you have to be here. You will find wonderful
and supportive folks here. I have a doctor's appt so I have little time
right now but others will chime in.

I see you were on ABVD. I do know steroids (prednisone) for sure can impact
sugar levels and some people develop diabetes while on steroids. I know
you said you already were diabetic so if you have been on steroids, that may
have made it worse and hopefully temporarily.

I'm sorry you are so limited in what you can eat - hopefully that will change soon.

I'll try to write more later.

    Hugs and positive thoughts,

DX: DLBL 4/2011, Chemo completed 10/2011, currently in remission. :)

    Hi Bulldogbruce
    Hi Bulldogbruce,
I'm actually going through some similar things right now, before cancer I didn't have high cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid problems and now everything is out of sync. I can't say for sure what is causing all of this issues, it can be the Rituxan, the cancer or some of the other medicines that I also have to take. Just hang in there and hopefully after you're done with your treatment it will go down again. Take care
