time for a new diet, ketogenic ? anyone else want to join me ?
I am just curious, thats all. its a bit of a learning curve and to achieve ketosis is hard, i am using the ketostix urine test, looking at a new monitor.
something new for when i am at the clinic.

A preliminary paper from Dr. Fine's team was just published and the summary of results states
"Preliminary data demonstrate that an insulin-inhibiting diet is safe and feasible in selected patients with advanced cancer. The extent of ketosis, but not calorie deficit or weight loss, correlated with stable disease or partial remission."

ps now this is new territory for me, looking to buy a ketone urine strip and blood monitor.

Hi Pete
I've mentioned before I did this for 3 months, ketosis came after 3 days, we did 'classic' ketogenic, we used Ketocal mixture and lots of coconut oil.
After a few weeks you will feel very good on this diet. (if you last a few weeks) ;-) it is hard at the start, like most diets.
Good luck.0 -

i was looking at a combo blood glucose/ketones strip tested, that sync to the laptop.
if i am going to do this, i might as well do it right.
going to the clinic is the perfect chance to focus on this diet option.
tempted to start the fast while travelling to germany so my ketones are ramping up.
thanks for mentioning this months ago, its what got me reading. the fact that both my alt gp's have insisted i do it well was the icing on the cake.
but as always they left the fine details to me. i got mct oil, and some protien powders and herbs of gold green power protien.
trying to work out what level of shake and supplements and meal to get into ketosis asap and not loose further weight is a real challenge.
I am 83 kg and 6"4 so I have lost enough. even the dam ct says no abdo fat.
sticking to the diet, you should see the food i am travelling with. sardines in oil, miso soups, nuts galor, powders. I am a travelling health food and supplement shop.
the issue with the lacto veg food on the plane is its going to be carb heavy i suspect.
just trying to work out the fine details.
do i need to grab the portable food measuring scale, or just go by the palm of the hand protein approach. If I want ketosis fast, i think the 3 day into fast, is the way to go. with a few shakes on route to germany.
hugs,

If your worried about not having much fat on you, "I am 83 kg and 6"4 so I have lost enough. even the dam ct says no abdo fat" then please be very careful doing this diet. It's point is that the main benefit of keto diets is that it increases the body's ability to utilize fats for fuel. You have to ask yourself, what fat do you have left to utilize for the fuel? And can you afford to lose it?
Just wanted to give you a bit more "food" for thought.

Please check with your airline about the possibility of get meals for your needs rather than just whatever they are serving the masses.
Also check to see what you can and can't take with you into the plane cabin...they have gotten pretty picky on some stuff due to terror threats. Restrictions may also vary based on countries if you have to make connections or change carriers in route.

Urine, but you can also notice the 'sweet pear' smell on the breath during ketosis, 'classic' Ketogenic is also calorie restriction, I take it you are just doing 4:1 ratio.
If you are doing 4to1 fat you probably wont lose any weight.
You might also notice your brain running better ;-)
We bought a scale sensitive to 1 gram. Small enough to travel with.
We were frying a tiny bit of salami in coconut oil then pouring more oil on top, followed by a huge bowl of cream and a single strawberry for desert. Yummy.0 -

Again Pete, be careful, it takes and burns your fat, that is fat in YOUR BODY as well. And that's the fuel and the truth. I'm just asking you to be careful. Your body needs you now, more then ever before, Okay?
Winter Marie
PS. And Pete? Be careful taking scales with you, that usually is a signal to the airport security that you are a drug dealer, at least in the USA, LOL.
PSS. By the way my brother-in-law was a body builder and followed a similar diet, but then he was in great health and working out hours each day, consuming quantities of food that was burned up. I remember sitting on his back as he did his push ups. Very impressive. However, I don't think muscle body building is what you have in mind Pete? He won a few muscle body awards. The diet is perfect for that (one can always dreams though eh?, it took years to get that way, not months).0 -

Is not the same as what 'bodybuilders' do.
Don't worry about the scales Pete, it's Germany not the USA.0
