pictionary in ICU

Ok maybe its lack of sleep talking but I got a little tickled. My husband woke up with Versa and 200mg Fentanyl and wanted to tell me and the nurse that his teeth were cutting into his upper lip. He began drawing doodles and getting frustrated as we played dictionary trying to figure out what he was trying to say. Finally he asked for his cell phone and took 10 minutes to text teeth cutting upper lip. Ok so maybe it doesn't sound funny now, but if you knew my husband you would understand. He has to communicate and he was determined we were going to listen. I hope he gets out of ICU tomorrow. They tried letting him breath on his own, but his rates went way down so back to breathing with the ventilator.

    Abi-Normal...
LOL, that is funny...., I think he may just be an early candidate for the Abi-Normal Clan.

I also realize the circumstanse isn't funny, but the story is, and when he heals and recovers. It'll be one of those moments you both can look back at and have a good laugh together.

    it gets even funnier
The doctors came in and took David's breathing tube out this morning. The nurse asked if he wanted her to take of the restraints and through slurred speech my husband said Nah I kind of like bondage. Lol. One of the nurses almost died. He had everyone in the room in stitches. That being said he has been really sick since they took out the tube. His respiration gets really low whenever he drifts off to sleep and he hates how swollen his tongue is.

    Swollen tongue
My sister-in-law, who is also a nurse, got me a small tablet sized write board at the dollar store before my surgery...best $1 spent. When family or nurses could not read my writing they wrote the alphabet on it and I pointed to the letters until they figured out what I wanted. It worked well.

It sounds like he is doing very well. I am glad that you both get to talk, no matter how you do it.
