Chia Seeds for a healtier you?

I have recently heard of chia seeds. The magical little seed that packs a punch to get you healthier. I have bought an organic bag at Whole Foods and have been eating them in my cerel every morning this week and on my salads at lunch. Anyone have any other uses? I have search the messages here and saw where some put them in a smoothie but I am not a smoothie type person in the mornings. I might be able to do it in the evenings after work. On line it talks about the benefits of chia seeds, helps to lose weight, balance blood sugar, adds omega 3 to your diet, feel more energized, bake with it, and has age-defying antioxidants. Lots of good stuff and it is natural. Let me know if you use it in any other ways. thansk trish

I learned of these from my yoga teacher who said that they "will draw the cancer out of you". She soaks some in water which makes a gelatinous consistency and then puts a couple tablespoons of this in water or juice and drinks it. It is tasteless.

I need to get back into using chia. May we all live long and prosper!!

    Thanks for this conversation, Trish.

;^) No I do not think so.
I bought mine at Whole Foods on Lemmon Ave. I read about them in a bridal book because my daughter is getting married in Jan. The article said this woman had started taking chia seeds to help her lose weight instead of pills. I looked it up on line and there is a lot of stuff about how healthy chia seeds are. When we were at Whole Foods I asked about them in the vitaman asile and bought a package. I just do not know what all to do with them yet and wanted to know if anybody else used them. I will put some in dirt and see what it grows. They look a little bit bigger than a poppy seed and smaller than seseme seeds and are round. Also when mixed with water or any liquid they form a little gel pocket around them. I had strawberries and there was juice left on the plate, I put a spoon full of seeds in the juice and within 30 min all the seeds had expanded and formed a gell of strawberry juice. You could hold the plate up and no juice ran. Kinda of freaky. How are you doing Liz? Well I hope. trish

    Chia seeds~
I've been consuming for a few years, twice per day in my whey protein drink. Loaded with omega 3's, protein, fiber and calcium, plus gluten free and "organic".

I purchase mine on-line from a company called iherb.com, as pricing is a bit better on most items vs. my local Whole Foods. My product is -- GREEN FOODS, Organic Chia.

    Thanks!
As I had never tried them before, I bought the Whole Food brand. I currently add to my cerel in the morning with my yogurt and at my salads at lunch about two tablespoons each setting. Like I said above I also used them to gel the left over strawberry juice. Since they do not have a taste it was like eating strawberry jello. I found a couple of things on line about cooking with them but have not tried anything yet. Thanks for the info. trish

Laughing at the idea of eating chia pets
I shouldn't chuckle since I've gained 10 pounds since my last chemo in June.

Anyhow, my hair's about 3/4" and almost looks like a pixie cut that I did on purpose. I had a CT last week because I've got some lymph nodes in the bowel region that have been lit up since before my surgery, and we're checking to see if they've changed or not. While I was at it I had a venous Doppler and an MRA on my neck and left arm - one of my trap muscles is bigger than the other and I've been having some pain in my neck and my upper arms. My onc appointment is this Thursday so I'll get his opinion about the neck, the nodes, and some bloodwork that my GP did that showed low magnesium (back on supplements - thank you, chemo) and high liver activity.

Just when I get lulled into a sense of normalcy, they keep pulling me back in...

Loved your "just wants to be
Loved your "just wants to be normal" ending! Never knew washing dishes, doing laundry, running around taking care of things, and Hamburger Helper for supper would sound soooo GOOD! I would just like to be normal again, too! Boring would actually be even better! Best, Debrajo

I read an artical the other day that said until 1986, there was no UPSC and that it was just lumped into the uterine cancer group as an unusual sub-type. INDEED! In one way it's good to be reconized , but 1986, and NO medicine just for us? REALLY? debrajo

    LOL
Some would argue that I was never "normal"!

One of the frustrations of any cancer, I'm sure, is that any medical annoyance takes on a sinister undertone. My magnesium's low?! OMG the chemo can get me even 3 months later. My liver's wacky?! OMG it could be mets. My boob has a fibroadenoma?! OMG is that related to cancer. My throat is sore?! OMG can my body deal with it if it's the flu. (Yes, I just had a flu shot.)

I yearn for the day when I would roll my eyes at a sore throat, when I never needed bloodwork, when my veins would cooperate with blood draws...

Most days I flip the bird to this new normal - HA, I'll show YOU who can beat this! But these little things have a way of getting under my skin that they never would have pre-diagnosis. Damn cancer.

I have an update appointment with my oncologist on Thursday and I hope the worst thing he tells me is that I have to stop eating like a pig :) Then I can rest easy until the next follow up :)

But to end on a brighter note, as I approach my year anniversary of diagnosis all the crappiness seems sooooooo long ago. It's amazing to me how much I was able to accomplish during treatment, how wonderful my friends and family were and continue to be, and that time does march on.

Hugs to all my UPSC sisters,

    Liz in Dallas

I do agree Liz...I've been a lot of things, but normal was never one of them!I would love to wake up with a headache and not think Oh, God...mets to the brain, or have swollen glands( I had Mono as a child and this happens any time I feel bad) and not think Oh, God...mets to the lymph nodes, ect. Wonder if we will EVER get to the point that all our ache and pains will be just that...aches and pains! I think I am more afraid of the TREATMENT than the cancer! SIGH! Hope your anniversary extends for the next 100 years and that all the other junk is just that...junk! I think you and I have the same stage, grade, UPSC, I'm just a little ahead of you. Best on your check-up...give'm TEXAS HELL! debrajo(a 6 generation Texan!)
