Widowhood
I have not been on this site for quite some time. It has been 7 mos. since losing my husband to Liver Cancer. So much has happened since but not a day goes by that I don't wish he were here with me.
We would have been married 40 years which seems like to long ago yet just like yesterday. I was only 17 when I met him and now I am left here to live the rest of my life without him!
The worse part of losing him was his not being able to walk our daugther down the aisle two weeks ago.. It took a lot of strenghth on my part but I did manage to keep my composure and get her down the aisle without too many tears. We did honor him with a picture with candles and in the program. It still is sad that all these years we waited for him to have that honor and he missed it!!
My heart is still broken however I try my best to make him proud of me everyday by the way I go on...
I don't know what the future may bring and it scares me to think of myself spending the rest of my life alone but I am trying to make the best of it as that is what he wanted.
I now must face my own health issue alone without my beloved husband.
Wishing everyone else on this site the best.

Eerily similar story...
Your husband’s story is so similar to that of my dad. He will be 51 years old next week, he and my mom have been together since they were 14. He contracted Hep C through a blood transfusion in the early 80’s. It has attacked his liver. His cirrhosis was diagnosed in 1994. He was on interferon for a few months before he could not take it anymore due to the side effects. In November of 2011, the hepatic encephalopathy episodes started. He was referred for a liver transplant in December. As we waited for him to be “sick enough” for transplant the team of doctors thought it would be a good idea to treat the current tumor with ablation. It worked great…until we went for a follow up MRI and found that a new tumor has popped up in a fast and furious fashion. It has invaded the portal vein and is over 5cm. They have put the cancer at Stage 4, this disqualifies him for transplant.
He has started Nexavar and is waiting for the final part of the Y-90 (Therasphere) procedure. He has said all along that he doesn’t want to die, he doesn’t want to leave my mother, and he will fight this S.O.B. to the end. I can already see him slowing down and the toll this is taking on his body. I will stand next to him and hold his hand or behind him to hold him up for as long as he wants to fight this terrible monster.
Sending you a hug and praying that god gives you the strength you need to get through every day.

Yes, I agree, our stories are very similar.. My husband endured all that your Dad is... I do have lots of his experience and information regarding the treatments that he endured. If I can help let me know. That is my purpose in life right now...
Be sure to say what you want to say and do what HE wants to do.. NO REGRETS,,
Keep in touch.
