My mom diagnosed with ovarian cancer
My mom is 61 years old and she is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. CA 125 is 5000 and she has a tumor on her left ovary.
CT scan revealed that she has large complex and solid left ovarian mass with post contrast heterogeneous enhancement with necrotic center. The size of the mass is 94x87x48 MM. It says (?neoplastic).
Diffuse omental thickening and enlarged lt iliac
moderate Ascites and mild left plural effusion
She lives in India. Given this condition I am asking you good people what are the chances to survive from this deadly disease. I am worried for her. Today she will be visiting to the cancer research center in India. Which is the best in the country.
I need your prayers, wishes and advises for her speedy recovery and longevity.
Thanks
Prady

SENDING PRAYERS TO YOUR DEAR MOTHER AND YOU
Prady, I know this news is hard to take. But I'm glad that your Mom will be able get good care in a top-notch hospital. My guess is that they will do surgery, which should include a total hysterctomy. They will probably also remove the omentum or part of it. During this surgery they should be able to have a good look around, and they will possibly also take a sampling of several lymph nodes. She should have a good recovery, and after they may give her chemotherapy treatments. I can't really say what their plan will be, but this is a common course of action.
My doctor is from India, and he is one of the best in the country. In fact, once or twice a year he goes back to India and gives free treatment to patients there. I would be curious to know if this is where he goes to give medical care.
There is much, much hope for your mother. Being informed is important, so that she can make the best decisions possible for herself, and feel confident and comfortable doing so. There are many, many treatment options available. Please don't give up hope. I will continue to pray for her and you. Please be sure to let us know how she is doing.
By the way, I am a 12-year survivor, and you will find many others here, too.
Prayers & (((HUGS)))

Dear Prady
You have every reason to be optimistic and hopeful about your mom and her future. There are many long-term ovarian cancer survivors, including women on this board. Come this October, I myself will be NED (no evidence of disease) for two years. My tumor was the size of a baseball. It's good that she will be at the best cancer research center in India. I assume she will be having surgery soon and if so, hopefully she will get a gyn/oncology surgeon, who is best suited for ovarian cancer surgery.
You and your mom do not have to face this alone. The women on this board are very caring and can provide you with lots of support.
Sending you and your mom my prayers and best wishes as she begins this new journey.

I am glad you found this board. I have said many times that when I found it I sobbed while typing my first post. I was feeling so alone even though I had many friends and family members around me. I have had so much support here. These ladies are so kind and loving and because we are all on the same journey their understanding of everything I go through, good and bad is priceless to me.
I wish the very best for your mom. There is hope. It is a hard battle but the will to live is a powerful warrior. You take care of yourself as well. It was hard for me to see my family and friends suffer along with me.
You and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers.

Update on my mom
Hi All,
The treatment has started for my mom. They took appox. 3L fluid from her abdomen area and sent the fluid for further investigation.
Now Dr is saying they will do the Chemo and after the first chemo they will decide the course of action. I hope this is the right path forward.
The dr is a Gynecological Oncologist.
Thanks again for your time and support.

my treatment. I had 5 liters removed, then 3 more a week later. It gave me great relief. I had three rounds of carbo/taxol before surgery because my gyn/onc said if the cancer did not shrink, he could not operate. Thankfully it did and I had debulking surgery. I then was scheduled for three more rounds of chemo, 2 infusions of taxol and one of cisplatin per round. It was tough and after I was hospitalized twice the doctor decided I wouldn't have the final infusion of taxol. I left the hospital healthy and feeling very good.
I hope your mom has the best possible results.

KellyHi Prady I am now 62 I & was dx at 61 in Spring of 2013 - liike most of us I was advanced due to late diagnosis & had a little metasticizing. I was started on cabo platin/ pacli taxal chemo txs to hopefully shrink the cancer enough to undergo the debulking /omentomectomy surgery. I responded very well to chemo my ca125 dropped from a startof 4,000 to 12,00-- butafter 6 rounds a contrast CT showed my gyne/oncologist she would like more shrinkage before surgery. - te,ling us the best results come from smaller tumors to excise I was put on anothewr 6 rounds of chemo. & Finally she was happy& ready to proceed with this surgery. which is an rintegral part of tx after all the pre surgery chemo my ca 125 was 120 I'm 1.5months post surgery & taking my post-surgery chemo. as a routine to kill any cells they could not remove surgically.
my advice to you ilearn what you can about ov ca & tx rreading on this site has taught me I am being treated with standard ptotocol for this disease.
best of luck to you & your Mom.hopefully she can be cared or by a gyne/oncololgist
Cxome back & read often
