Judy is having Don moved

Judy posted this a little while ago "Finally had enough and demanded he be sent to Univ of Mich. first we were waiting for a bed and now we are waiting for insurance approval. They have a bed we just need the insurance company to approve. The docs have documented three very good reasons for the transfer and hopefully the insurance company approves this. We are both sick and tired of no answers. Don had a couple of days of progress but quickly lost that ground over the past couple of days. They don't know why he is retaining fluid. They can't get the pain under control with him not having an episode of not breathing. The kidneys are fetting a little more stressed.
They admit he is not getting better and I will be damned if they are going to do another thing unless it is an absolute emergency to him. So far what they've done has not worked well at all. I hope that Univ of Mich can find out what is going on and fix it. He had four episodes of not being able to breathe today and after the last one I said enough. I hope that this is the right thing to do. I don't him to lose anymore ground than he already has. All the tests they have done seem to be fine and no answers. So they need to put in the feeding tube and analyze the fluid and get the pain under control and get the fluid off him and then we can get on with this thing called "life". Thank you for the prayers I am sure you will be praying for Don. It has been a rotten 14 days"

Hope they can get him moved ASAP and get some answers. This just seems like a nightmare the way things have been handled. And now to have to fight the bloody insurance company.

    Agreed
I hope the insurance approves the move. How scary to hear that he's having episodes where he cannot breathe! You can count on us all to send lots of prayers and love to Don and Judy. Thank you for keeping us posted Freida!

So glad to hear about the move. Don and Judy both deserve more than what they have gotten. U of M will help them find out whats going on.

I am sure the insurance company will be o.k. with this.

    Insurance approval
Well that was another ordeal and the admitting doctor was extremely helpful. He stayed until the transport team came to get Don. I sent the surgeon a vig lengthy email explaining the events of the past 11 days at Bronson hospital and the days in Sturgis and he actually read it on a Dunday and responded. Well he responded to my daughter because her IPad is connected with her phone email. Had a little inconvenience when we arrived at our confirmed hotel. It seems they had a NASCAR group at the holiday inn and many of the rooms for trashed so they ended up putting us in a Hampton inn. Big deal it's a bed pand comfy. Need a good nights sleep. I feel he is in capable hands. In fact they did a abdominal xray after we got here. Don is exhausted and I hope he can get some rest. He really needs it. Should have made this move a week ago.

Will let you all know when we know something. Winding down for the night. Thank you all so much. As Sherri and Barb said we do become like family and manage to help each other through this journey. Little did I know 9 months ago justt how many resists and turns we were heading for.

    Love to all and FRC

Don got moved to U of M
Don got moved to U of M yesterday and they already seem to be making more progress in at least figuring out the problem. Judy sent this message. "Don has multiple DVTs in right arm
Kidney function is high but stable
    Albumin is very low
Liver function tests really increased and may be due to theTPN they were giving him
    Taking PICC line out
Doing scan of legs for DVTs
    Will give heparin infusion
    Will do abdominal ultrasound
    Will do another CT scan
    He needs oxygen
He is on fall precaution due to heparin
Trying to wean him off the narcotics
    Bowel is not working
Basically everything that was done at Bronson was the wrong thing for Don. I am very angry with myself for allowing that to go as long as it did. I know better. You can all say that it isn't my fault but in most ways it is. Don has a bit of anger too but I know that he is relieved to be here and I feel confident they can get him feeling better. I will keep you posted but don't expect much in the way of results today. I am exhausted and he doesn't feel good and I am sure the Bickersons are coming for a visit. For those of you that don't know the Bickersons this is an endearing term that one of the nurses gave my mom and dad when they were here at UofM for a lengthy stay. It is now what all the CBGs call ourselves when one of the couples is having a little spat. We just say "the Bickersons were here" stressful times to be sure but positive better days are coming.
Will keep youn posted as things progress. Thank you for your well wishes and continued prayers. Love, Judy and Don and Caitlin." I slapped her about the head a bit for blaming herself when she has been the one going to bat for him. God know where he'd be without her. Hopefully things will start to improve now he is with competent doctors.

Thank God he is out of that
Thank God he is out of that hospital. Are they going to drain the fluid and test it. The reason I ask is because
Vince had an abdominal ultrasound that showed his organs to all be o.k. when in fact he was full of cancerous fluid.
Just thought I would ask. Looks to me like the TPN caused him as many problems as it did my Vince.

These local hospital drs should be shot having this poor men ho thru so much unnecessary anguish.

Take care and let us know how things are going.

    Thank you Freida for posting

I don't know what to say......

So glad Judy got Don the devil out of Bronson and into UofM. Results (and relief for them both) will hopefully be coming soon.

You are a love, Freida, for keeping us updated as well as for lifting Judy's spirits.

    Hugs & Love to you!

    Equality
Proof once again (as if we needed it) that all hospitals are NOT created equal. Glad Don is out of there and someplace where competent people are in charge.

My next CT scan is next Monday, so guess I'll find out >something< then. I don't see my subcutaneous tumors shrinking, which makes me think that whatever the oncologist is doing isn't accomplishing much.

    Hey Jerry!
Nothing but positivity, the best mojo and the best of wishes and luck for a good report for you on Monday. Also saw your post regarding energy - from what I have learned from your posts - your energy level was so much more than normal people to begin with, I wonder if your energy level now is what most people would consider normal.

Just wanted you to know that we are thinking of you and wishing for the best.

    Hugs,
    Judy
