Not Bad
When I had Erbitux it was easy to take. Ist one takes about 2 hrs via IV, after that 1 hour weekly. Mine was given over 8 weeks but did not do any good with my cancer. Compared to chemo, this one is good, Had no problems apart from the SKIN RASH to chest and face. Suggest you use no perfumed soap. I was given a 'pack' from the supplier which helped with the rash. Also, suggest you get onto some anti-bioactics to help with the rash.
Best wishes…Andrew0 -
I agree with Andrew below
I agree with Andrew below with one exception. My skin broke out like a teenager with acne! I mean everywhere head, face, neck, back, chest, butt, legs, arms. Doc perscribed Doxycycline Mono 50mg and that helped. My wife was changing the sheets daily becuase of the bleeding. And my skin got very dry. Imagine that acne and dry skin. Wierd. My skin is quite sensitive to begin with. We used cetaphil lotion, alove vera gel, and jojoba oil for the dry skin. Good luck with your treatments.0 -

It does get better
I've been on it for 14 months now. The rash has mostly healed with only a small patch on my chest. Even the splitting of the skin on the hands and feet has gone down a lot. The skin on my back is very dry and I use a loofah on it as best I can when showering. It'd be nice if there was some way I could reach around and put Aquaphor on it.0 -
Phil and DOC you give me
Phil and DOC you give me hope. My husband has crc with mets to the peritenium. CEA hanging around 301 scan stable. He has received 3 treatments with the eribitux and scan looks much better and CEA down to 206. Rash pretty bad so they are holding off this week but will start back with a lower dose next week. Have you had any of these issues? It is great to hear you can be on it that long. Our Dr. Said its time to ride the erbitux train for awhile. He is also on xeloda, irenatecan and avastin. But this seems to be the best. Any words of wisdom will help.0 -

Hi CB. The rash does get pretty bad at first, but it will fade with time. Did his onc prescribe doxycyclene? I take 200 mg twice a day and it helps with the rash. There's also an ointment that he can get to help with it. I haven't used it in some time so I don't remember then, but will look for it and post it here. Good luck to you and your husband and welcome to the board.

Yes he does have the cream and antibiotic. Thanks I have been lurking around for awhile but couldn't bring myself to post. My husband doesn't like me to be on the website much because he says I cry to much when I am on it, So I do it when he isn't home. LOL It just gives me comfort to know we are not alone. He was diagnosed April 2010 at the age of 41. We have 2 kids 22 and 10. He is the love of my life and I just want to feel like I am doing everything to help him. I am a nurse and I am suppose to help people, but so much of the time with this I feel very helpless.0 -

I just started erbitux last month. The rash is improving. I don't know how long my dr. plans on keeping me on it. I get a CEA tomorrow to see if there is any improvement. My husband has a quiet day after my treatment as I get benadryl and I sleep during treatment, on the 1 hr. drive home, and another 2 hr. nap at home. The rash I can handle, the uncertainty is what drives me nuts. I have the doxycycline, clyndamycin oitment, and my aloe vera plant.0 -
Erbitux
I had Erbitux from January 3, 2012 till July 3, 2012.
I am stage IV and had over 30 leisons in the liver.
today i have 5!!!
I had Erbitux with Folfox6 (Leukavorin, Oxilyplatin, 5FU, etc).
it worked well for me.
the Rash was horrible for me... but i really didn't care how i looked as every 8 weeks i received good reports and good news of improvements.
they had to stop the Erbitux 3 different times, as my side effects and skin issues were so bad... but again, i was okay with that. cuz it worked.
i had resection surgery and the plan now is to move over to Avastin with Xeloda as maintenance to keep the cancer in the liver and to NOT allow it to grow, move or spread.
cool showers, NO perfumes or scented soaps or lotions... and a mindset that you say... I don't care if people stare at me with a red face and/or rash!!!
good luck.
I hope this helps you beat your cancer.0 -

One friend said I looked like I had been out in the sun too long. Another told my son she thought I had been hittin' the bottle. My granddaughters were using cotton balls and ointment on all my bad spots. I'll take the rash anytime if it stops my liver tumors from increasing.0 -
erbitux
thank you everyone. this is the best place to get the low down! i was surprised today when i got here for tx as the doc wants to hold off on it. his pa said last week i would get. either she jumped the gun or after a tumor club meet on fri of various onc docs he has changed his mind. he said he wants to see what the avastin does & i hope that is the correct decision. again i thank you because i might need erbitux in the future.0
