Hi, thanks for thinking
Hi, thanks for thinking about me. I'm still here=) I'm on here once a week or so. Too much arguing was going on over foods, treatments, exercise. I'm a whatever works for you kind of person and so I took a break. Too much negativity gets me down as I'm sure it does everyone. We're all in the same boat so however you try to get better, I'll support it. I just finished week three of xeloda and oxaliplatin. Had a bad reaction at first but with the port that has been eliminated. Also changed my antinausea in the beginning which was what was actually making me really sick. Ended up in the ER. I feel so much better now with this new antinausea. It was an instant change. Learning how to deal with the cold issues which are slowly becoming more noticeable and the initial chewing pain that I forget about until I chew and then I go ow. lol The tingling is doable so far. Been reading up a lot of diet and exercise. Hoping to get myself into a routine, stand more at work since I have a sit down job. Work on my eating habits. It's hard when you're a sugarholic. I've managed to cut back immensely but I still have some work to do. Mostly tired because my new grandbaby (he's so precious and tiny - only 5 lbs) is living with me so I'm helping with that and the usual work and trying to get back on track with my own kids (we didn't do anything this summer at all like we usually do) but on the cancer front, I'm just floating along until my next scan in September, some days are mentally great, some days are not so mentally great. Having a little scanxiety, I'm sure everyone has that also. Just can't wait to know this is all working and has stopped moving so fast. What about you, anything new?0 -

Glad to hear things are going along ok, You know we wouldn;t recognise the good days if we didn't have some not-so-good to compare them to. Good luck with future scan.0 -

Hey Helen,
Good luck to you. I think you are in a good place right now. Scanxiety is real and overwhelming...
I agree with you on the negativity sometimes...drives me away some day and weeks. Stay well and keep up the good attitude Helen. You will do well!

I too was wondering how things were going and it sounds like they are okay. Imagine having the baby around is tiring, but also a welcome distraction, and a reminder of why we do what we're doing.
Have you asked about magnesium sulfate with your infusion? It made a world of difference to me as far as cold sensitivity and the oxy tingling.
Glad to see you here~

PS: As far as the Board and the occasional flare-ups, just pop some popcorn, sit back and watch the ping pong match---that's what I do. Sometimes I suspect it's just people blowing off some steam.

Update
Thanks for the update and glad that at least you are tolerating the treatment. Cold sensitivity can get worse so just make sure that your doctor knows. Congratulations on the new "little" one. They sure are precious.

will be sending you tons of good thoughts for that next scan (I'm scanning in September too, and trying to ignore the whole thing for the time being). I'm sure that new baby is a great distraction! Hugs-Ann0 -
Hey Helen
Love the new picture! I am glad you are rolling along, I just finished treatment # 2, it was better than 1. I know you are enjoying that grand baby, and of course kids going back to school. My boys start august 16th. My CT is in September also. We can have scan anxiety together!

glad to hear you are coping well.. for the cold sensitivity in the summer it seemed so odd to me.. but i wore glove to touch cold stuff.. make sure to tell the doc you are tingling already at just 3 treatments..
I get some scan results tomorrow.. I did them last week.. I am anxious and then I am not. if the news is bad I don't really want to know... you know what I mean..
I too saw the arguements.. but sometimes I think I like to egg then on.. but everyone has there opinion and is entitled to express them.. lets face it this survial stuff is tough and we have to be strong to our opinion to get thru this. so let then have there way....
Glad you are feeling better0 -
I figured that myself. Mytommycat said:Good to see you!

I figured that myself. My good day may be someone else's bad and who knows who just had whatever result come in. In my state of mind, I had to just take a break and get my own thoughts in order so that someone else's bad day didn't become my bad day. That was happening a lot. I'm at that point where I'm starting to get off the pitty pot and see what I can do to change this and help myself more. I did a speed walk yesterday if you can call that speed, it was more of my usual speed bump. But I'm working on it.0 -

I've had circulation issues since I had my kids. I put on a lot of weight during the pregnancies and I have vericose veins. My feet swelled like balloons a few weeks ago. Went for a sonogram, no blood clots. Going to talk to the doctor about the tingling and cramping. I found that sleeping with my legs up helps tremendously and also I'm potassiuming and mangnisiuming myself to death.
I'm going to look now about your scans to see if you posted.0 -

lol Scanxiety it is! The baby is beautiful. He's the tiniest thing I've ever seen. I was home sick today for noncancer related stuff and I was holding him most of the day. In NY the kids don't go back to school until September=) We're only midsummer here bc they get out in late June. My youngest is in camp and the older one does his thing with his friends. Have to get some summer time fun going because this year it's been a bit of a fail with all that's going on. Paintball is on the list of wants. Maybe take a real ferry around Manhattan. Something outside the usual Bronx Zoo, aquarium and Staten Island Ferry.0 -

Thanks Kim, he's just too cute for words. I'm going to talk about the cold sensitivity now that I know that. I just figured it was a given. It's very tolerable except when I cheat and drink something and my tongue goes numb. It's very entertaining to everyone because for once in my life, I can't speak!=)0 -

Hello Helen,
I am very interested in the fact that you live with a newborn. I am expecting my first grandbaby any day now and would like to know about handling a baby while on chemo. What precautions, if any, were you told to take? I start chemo tomorrow and my daughter in law was due today. I really want to hold that baby when s/he's born
