ablation of liver tumor

in Colorectal Cancer #1
Has anyone had high frequency CT guided radio wave ablation of a liver tumor? My husband had colorectal CA. Surgery for APR also revealed liver mets. He had Folfox chemo but had to be off for 13 weeks due to shortness of breath and stoma abscess. After starting back on chemo, PET indicated liver tumor back. Now off chemo & scheduled for the radio wave ablation. Just wondering what we should expect. The APR was much more difficult than we had thought, so this time I'd like to be more prepared. Thank you for your response.

    Not to down play anything
    Not to down play anything that our loved ones have to endure at all but RFA was a piece of cake! We stayed over night and went home the next day feeling wonderful. :)

    I have had liver mets. I also have been treated with Yittrium (Y90 is radioactive isotopes
    administered thru a catheter thru to femoral artery into the tumor...ask your Dr. about it. It's worth it as well.

    microwave ablation on my liver in february i also had a liver resection done in sept 2011.as brenda said is was a piece of cake compared to other surgeries i have had,was in hospital one night and home the next day.good luck and ..Godbless....johnnybegood

    Mine Was Different
    I had about a 7-8 day stay at the hospital after RFA on my liver...

    It started out as a full open liver resection, so they split me wide open and peeled me back and then discovered that a resection was not possible - so they switched to RFA.

    It's possible that the open incision contributed to more hospital time and recovery. And when I got home, I looked like I was beaten with a baseball bat.

    They apparently "ground you" like an electrical circuit, so I had nasty purple discolorations all over both of my hips and up and down both arms. It really made me wonder what they did to me to have caused so much damage.

    I looked like I had been through it.

    My liver tumor was as big a round as an orange, so it was pretty hard to ablate, but they got as much as they could. And then we did Cyberknife to destroy the outer remains of the tumor that was left.

    My story just a little different...I'm hopeful that yours will go much better like the other posters on the thread.
