memory loss after cancer

in Lung Cancer #1
I will be in remission 5 years in august 29. but i am having trouble remembering simple words.i can remember things a long time ago .please tell me if anybody else is having this problem.i can't have a simple conversation because i forget a simple word that i know i know what it is but i feel stupid.

    please share if anybody is having problems remembering simple words after cancer is in remission. i'm at the point where i don't want to talk to people because it is so embarassing, i feel stupid!

    Hello, First great news of being in remission. I am 53 and had a lower right lobe removed via vats on 9-23-10, no chemo or radiation. I did however have chemo/radiation for anal cancer and completed tx on 6-30-09. So far so good as both cancers show ned. Now I do that where I'll be having a conversation and the words just escape me. Because my friends do the same thing that have'nt had cancer, I know they understand. Maybe its just part of the aging process. I know when I'm tired it will happen more. Don't feel stupid, we have all been there. I hope others will chime in. I wish you the best, Lori.

    Yes, forgetting is part of aging but it doesn't have to be. This may be unrelated to the cancer or to other diseases of age. Tell your doctor you would like a carotid doppler. If the carotid is blocked by plaque or cholesterol blood can't get through to the brain. This happens far more often than you would imagine. Stay in touch!

    I have seen some signs of this in myself ...
    ... although not to the extent you mention. I'm also finding myself setting things down and immediately forgetting where I left them, which is not a usual thing for me. I've always been the photographic memory type. Then again, I'm not getting any younger.

    You're coming up on five years in remission? Congrats! Another name I have to put on my list of idols!

    Memory after Chemo...
    Hello, Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. I stop right in the middle of a conversation because I can't recall the word I'm looking for. I had chemo in 2010. I even forget important things sometimes. But my memory is getting better. Playing word games or doing math problems helps to sharpen your memory. Also reading out loud. I play scrabble and soduku, and circle the word puzzles. I play at least one game every day. It helps to keep your thoughts connected. It really does help, my memory is much better now!!     dENNYc HAS ALOT OF EXPERIECE ON THIS SITE.....i DO NOT USE MY BRAIN AS AN ENGINEER THAT DEGREED FOR, THAT MAY HAVE SOMETING TO DO WITH IT.....I HAVE BRAIN METS AND GAMMA KNIFE RADIATION SO I DO NOT KNOW!!! THE RADS AND SURGERY BRAIN METS ARE RELATIVELY NEW.


    ITS BEEN A COUPLE YEARS SINCE CHEMO AND RADS....BUT THE BRAIN METS AND SURGERY TO THE CEREBELLUM ARE RELATIVIELY NEW, ALTHOUHG DOCS SAY THAT IS UNRELATED??? i DO NOT KNOW! i TRY TO USE THAT EXCUSE ALOT TO NO AVAIL!!
