Boost burning my tongue

Well I’m down to 10 more radiation treatments after today. I have blisters in my mouth. The worst is the ones on my tongue. No taste except for the horrible taste always in my mouth. Swallowing is with difficulty, I can eat wieners (Oscar Meyers) and some streamed vegetables (Squash, Carrots and Brussels Sprouts) with pain. Boost has been my lifesaver. I have lost about 55 lbs. since my surgery. I am taking L-Glutamine three times a day, It seems to help with the blisters, makes them heal a little faster. The newest is when I drink some drinks my tongue burns, worst of all one of the drinks that burn is Boost. I have to drink it real slow, a little at a time. I am still working, but i don’t know how long I will be able to. I sure can’t wait till it’s over , I guess the blisters will be with me for a couple weeks after the last treatment.

    burning tongue
Seems like when my tongue burned I usually ended up with thrush (3 times) a yeast infection.
I did not have sores in my mouth but my lips were horrific. After treatment my lips were the 1st thing to show improvement...some week 1 and sores gone week 2. Have you tried scrambled eggs? milk? Do you have Magic Mouthwash?

    Have you been prescribed
Have you been prescribed Magic Mouthwash or Viscous Lidocaine? Both will numb your mouth so you can take in food without pain. If taste is gone this will at least make drinking tolerable.

    2nd the Thrush
the 2 times I had thrush it caused the burning you decribed. I believe you should also see heavy white mucus or discoloring on the tongue if its thrush. Meds available if it is thrush but the sooner you get it looked at the better it can be resolved fairly quick, but hurts like heck until it is.

I am with you on this ine
I had a lot of burning the last two weeks of rads and the first twonweeks after. did my ensure at the kitchen sik. Set up the sodium bicarb/ salt solution, the ensure, and the magic mouthwash so I had everything ready. Drank the ensure as fast as I could, cause it hurt, washed my mouth out with the bicarb, then used the magic mouthwashmto stop the tears from flowing. I couldnt use the magic mouthwash first cause then I couldnt swallow. It finally got better.

I used a lot of magic mouth
I used a lot of magic mouth wash. You dont have to swallow all. I would take 10ml or so swish it around my mouth so that it coates all sores than spit most of it out swallowing only some of it. Wait like 30 seconds or so and than have boost. You will feel no burning with this. You will get like 10-15 mins anf than the magic mouth wash effect wears out. If you are not done with eating when it wears out you can take it again. The prescription says you can take it every two hours but my doc had okayed it to take more times. It is very important that you get the nutrition you need for your recovery.

Magic mouthwash will be your best friend for next couple of weeks. I am 4 weeks out from my treatment but still use it.

It might be little late but
It might be little late but for mouth sores you may want to look into caphasol or mugard,

    Viscous Lidocaine Fan
Magic Mouthwash (well, here they call it "Miles Mixture") apparantly isn't very impressive here - it did not help with pain. I had some juicy mouth sores, too. What really helped me was timing. I'd take my pain meds about an hour and a half before I planned to try to eat. Then, just before eating, I'd do the viscous Lidocaine. It really helped me - I still had pain, but it was cut a lot. The lidocaine is short lasting, but would help me be able to get something down.

    Not Thrush
I talked to my doctor yesterday and I don't have thrush.
