My mom had back pain while eating and afterwards. She'd ask us to bang on her back with our fist. She often said it helped her to swallow.

She was not a surgery candidate.

    Hi Phil,

My husband had surgery this past September. He had back pain early on, he attributed to over eatting. He would get bloated and would get pain in his upper back. He found that reclining slightly after eating helped. I would also suggest talking to your primary care physician about getting some PT. Jeff started PT in April and it helped tremendously with back pain and rib pain.
