Katie, well done girl!
I quit cold turkey about 12 years ago and put on quite a
bit of weight which was a blessing in disguise as I lost 60lbs
during and after treatment for the 'C' word, which I had to
spare.
When I was told by an ENT I had 'C' ( before biopsys ) I came
home and told the wife and she quit right then and not had one
since ( Nov 2011 ).
So Katie keep it up were proud of you.
God bless

Congrats on quitting. Just
Congrats on quitting. Just take it one day at a time. I have never smoked but my brother quit a few years ago after smoking for 30+ years and he made it . Good luck!0 -
Very Good!
Congratulations! Keep the faith, keep your mind on positive things, I hope you make it through. My mother was a lifetime smoker from age 13. She had a heart attack about 6 years ago, and while in the hospital having bypass surgery she obviously couldn't smoke. When she came home she never wanted to smoke again, just quit. I know it's unusual, but she did it. 4 years later, sadly she was diagnosed with an inoperable lung tumor. She died 2 years ago.
Stay strong, and stay quit!
Best of luck to you!0 -

I smoked 30 years and up until the day of my surgery. Maybe that induced comma 4 days or 2 weeks in the hospital got me thru the rough spot. I never tried to quit during those 30 years. Don't really miss as much as I thought I would. Once in awhile I find myself reaching in my purse for them and then remember I no longer smoke, that's about it. It's been 6 months. Good luck!0 -

That is really great news Kate. I too was a smoker who quit on a promise to my new bride. It gets easier and easier as time flows by. There was a time when I'd think if the world was going to end then I'd light one up. Not now. That's progress to me. Others smoking doesn't seem to bother me too much either. Never turned into one of those ranting ex-smokers.
One day at a time.

That is awesome news! Good for you ....
I never smoked but just as bad I had terrible (and I mean terrible) eating habits. I loved my nightly bowl of ice cream! I was 321 lbs (that's not a typo) at the beginning of my treatments...now I am 85lbs lighter and I am going for another 30lbs to lose (the 85lbs was obviously involuntary). So my silver lining in all of this is I am thinner, feel better and now I plan on doing a fast walk 20 minutes a day for my exercise.
Really quite embarassed at how big I was ...did not realize or see it I guess. Now when I look back at my pics ..I think to myself ..whoa! What was I thinking!!
Best,

Hoorah for YOU!!!!
Sincere Horrah's as I still remember how I hated quitting...it was pure torture for me (it's only been 3 years)...
I'm quit certain smoking and drinking played a huge part in my cancer....even tho I quit drinking nearly 30 years ago...I did my damnedest to get my 200,000 gallons lifetime allotment in.

Phrannie,
Darn it girl...when you post things like above I nearly pee myself ! Thank you all for the support and I will try my hardest not to be one of those types to harp on this issue ! But monthly will let you know it's still a thumbs up ! Warmest regards to all ! Katie0 -
good news katie
Hi Katie,
Are you sure it is the weather kicking you off. Sometime I imagine it is John at a master control console deciding who is in and who is out (he has tricks up is sleeve you can bet on that).
Glad to hear you have quit smoking, I always found it difficult to light up with the mask on anyway (just kidding). I am extremely happy for you and hope the journey is easy for you.
Now turn on the air conditioning and fan and relax and have a drink (of water that is).
Best,
Matt0 -
congrats
CONGRATS....STARTING IS THE HARDEST PART. I smoked for over 40 years and am sure it caused my scc tongue. I, like hwt, quit on surgery day 19 months ago and have never looked back. the more time that passes, the easier it will get. Just get your hands busy and that will help.... I started to crochet (not kidding) and now we have little doilies everywhere but it worked for me.....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !0 -

I smoked for at least 25 yrs and I quit about 6 yrs ago. I had tried to quit many times before but it didn't work out. Now I am ok and I want nothing to do with cigarettes.
My life partner was a very heavy smoker and we quit at the same time. She found out she had cancer a long time after she quit. Almost sure the cancer was related to smoking though.
In any case she was a heavy smoker of at least one pack a day so I am sure you can quit and you will succeed. You can do it. The hardest time is the first month. After you will be ok. You need to suround yourself of supporting and helpful people.
We are sending positive thoughts your way. Sue and Carmen xxx0 -

before the dx, I believe it was a Monday smoked two, and done. None since, I believe going on 2 months now. So good for you and all you folks that have quit, keep it up. Really not much good comes from them but we all know how addicting they can be and tough to give up.0 -
You can do it girl
I smoked for 33 years, didn't start til I was 32...stupid, over the years tried to quit but honestly, I enjoyed smoking..the day of my surgery was the end for me, been 9 months and I still think about a cig once in a while, then I look at my family, grandbabies, and know , I'm done. Good luck0 -
Good Job!
I quit about nine years ago. I really liked smoking, and quitting was not fun. I will say that, before diagnosis, sometimes the smell of cigarette smoke would entice me - we had a discussion here some time ago about the body's memory of smoking, it was interesting.
As rough as quitting was, I realized one day that I was not hacking when I got up in the morining (as I was lighting up), and that when I layed down to go to bed a night, I wasn't coughing anymore. You've heard all the benefits, you know how good it is "on the other side".
Hope you keep up your separation from ciggies. Yay, you!0
