Useful prescription information for others in the future?

Being Triple Negative, I'm new to taking pills for chemo but, with the recurrence, I will be starting on Xeloda probably next week. My cancer center got the prescription filled through their pharmacy and I was told it had a zero dollar co-pay. Today I received a phone call from someone informing me that they work with my insurance company to fill prescriptions for specialty drugs like Xeloda. She told me that if I continue to get my prescription from my cancer center's pharmacy there will be a large co-pay because they are not a network provider. Apparently the pharmacy had applied a one-time discount to the prescription and nobody was bothering to tell me that I would have a co-pay for subsequent refills. The caller was not able to confirm what my co-pay would be with them until she placed an order for it so I had to allow her to reverse the prescription from the cancer center pharmacy and place the order with her company. She then confirmed that it had a zero dollar co-pay. I called the cancer center and they didn't seem surprised to hear that so hopefully I will get the pills before my chemo infusion next Thursday and everything will work out okay. I think my cancer center is going to keep the original prescription just in case I don't get them on time because they told me to call and let them know when I get them. Of course, as I type this, I am beginning to wonder if they also applied a one-time discount and refills will have a large co-pay??? So much for feeling like someone is finally looking out for me. If anyone else has had experience with this, please let me know.

My first co-pay for Xeloda was $10. Hopefully it will not go up

I hate this stuff!
The last thing a cancer patient should have to deal with is juggling acts to avoid huge co-pays! I got a bill for my mammogram last month even though I provided my new insurance information at least 3 times! The billed my old insurance and decided I had none. I hope this all works out Jamie. I'm sure it will - eventually. But in the meantime, we experience unneeded worries.
