Ask...
Ask your doctor for a prescription for Nystatin...but he/she needs to look at your mouth to see if it's thrush...that is treated differently with oral medication...also rinse your mouth with a mild solution of salt and or baking soda.... I know how painful mouth sores can be...

mouth sores
Believe me I know what you are going through. I had bad mouth sores. the dentist and oncologist both gave me Miracle Mouthwash but it wasn't that good. I never heard of Nistatin. While I was having the mouth sores my jaw broke. I was just standing in the kitchen and I heard a crack. I pushed thata side and then my mouth hurt so bad. I thought it was from the sores at that point I forgot about the crack. I went to my oncologist and she said to go see the dentist. I did, he took x-rays and he said my jaw is broke. I had to go in the hospitol and have surgry and the bottom of my mouth wired. I also had a Bone Infection. I was in pain for 9 weeks. I had to eat pured food because he told me not to chew. I am still taking antibiotics and it's been almost a year. In august is a year.
You can rince with baking soda, other then that unfortunatly you have to wait it out. I hope they go away soon. Let me know how you make out. Go in find a friend and put in peanutcat. Good Luck -

I was told to rinse and gargle with 1/4 tsp salt in 1 cup of warm water 3-4 times daily. I did this and never got mouth sores. One of the oncology nurses told me that when some got sores, when they did the salt water rinse every hour or so they cleared it up in a day or so. Maybe worth a try. -
Ouch!
I'm so sorry you have mouth sores - I feel your pain! I had them also and they sucked! Remember to eat bland and soft food (of course, if you can stand them) and rinse with salt water. I still got sores and honestly, they we're all I thought about some days. The "miracle" mouth wash worked but only for the time immediately after using it. The lidocaine mouth wash was nasty. Biotene mouth wash seemed to help with the nasty taste and moisturizing need. I have vivid memories of mouth pain and wouldn't wish them on anyone.
I'm glad you found us and I hope you find some comfort and help>
Hugs!
Karen
