impotence prostrate cancer

Hi although I've been a member for several months second post. I have a question that I haven't seen answered.
I had my prostrate removed December 12 2011.I am 67 and in good health . My geason score was 6 3+3.They had caught the cancer early with only 5% of my prostrate had cancer.
The question I have ,presently I am on 10 mlg of cialis 2 times a week.
I get a 3 oclock position with stimilation after taking cialis. I'm frustrated as my wife that not much happening . Should I increase my dosage ? Should I take cialis every night? Should I get something stronger?

    What to do?
I have taken cialis and the dosage was 20 mg. So, you could try doubling up to see what, if anything happens.

I went on daily 5mg instead and prefer it because it gets you "ready" anytime. You don't have to ingest the pill in advance of expected activity, just take it everyday like women do the "pill."

If that doesn't work, you should talk w/your urologist and/or an ED specialist to discuss your options.

    Good luck!

    7 Months
    Hey Littlemontana,

My improvement went very slowly. At seven months not much. At one year things were picking up, pills were starting to work, a bit. At 3.5 years, things continue to improve, and I hope to dump the pills some day.

There are a lot of variables impacting how fast you recover ... Skill of of the surgeon, size of the prostate, etc. I think (anecdotal) the younger you are, the quicker your nerves recover. I've read of guys in their forties and fifties recovering very quickly. Unfortunately, it seems to me, that a lot of guys in there sixties recover at a slower rate ... I know I did.

I follow a penile rehab program, that I started pre surgery. A good reference for such a program is Dr. Mulhall's book, "Saving Your Sex Life". You can also find his videos on the subject if you google him. As part of this program, I started on injections of Trimix. Two reasons for the injections. First to get fresh oxygenated blood into the penis ... This is very crucial. Second, at the time I started injections, pills were not working and the injections worked very well. You may want to talk to your urologist about penile rehab and injections.

I've used Cialis, but it's side effects (sore back) were bad for me. I've used Levitra with no side effects for a couple of years and Viagra.

Best of luck in you fight against PCa.

Thanks for the info,I guess I got conditioned to I want it now.
My prostrate was small only 41 grams 3.8X5.8 X3.7 cm . All before the last biopsy where the cancer was discovered I suffered no effects ,in fact not for the biopsy I didn't know I had it.
I recovered fast robotic prostatectomy . The catather I wore 11 days only I didn't want to go back in Pittsburgh. He had an office in Indiana more convenient.Incontence wasn't a problem only a couple of days. I'm a runner have been all my life,up to 1.5 miles and ready for 3.
I've heard of the book will buy and read. I don't have an appointment with my urologist until September. I think I will make it earlier.
    again thanks for the info.

    I use levitra 20 mg. I find
I use levitra 20 mg. I find the best results are to take the pill on an empty stomach about 2hrs before hand.

Recently went on a cruise with my wife for her 50th birthday...Ate too much and things didn't work as well as usual. Next attempt was after the cruise. Skipped dinner and wow was their a huge difference for me!

    At your age in

    Littlemontana
At your age in the late 60s,I advise you to discuss with your PCP or Internist ( not the Urologist) to check your kidney and liver functions, and with the Pharmacist for any possible drug interactions prior to increasing the dosage.

    prostate cancer & levitra
    Hi lewino,
I have not been on CSN for awhile, had ventriculular fibrillation incident in February and and a mowing accident in May. I am okay now certainly by the grace of God.

I had radical prostatectomy March 2009 and have tried Cialis and Viagra with no result.
I have a slight sensation in my penis and a short semi firm nub when I am aroused but so no "cupey doll". The injection sounds like sticking a needle in my member would kill the mood. I have even thought of the pump.
Really have not discussed with my uro.

So you say that levitra does work for you. Believe me if a simple pill could allow me to have intercourse it would be like WOW. I will definitely discuss with my uro.

    Thanks for any info.

    Yes as mentioned I've had
Yes as mentioned I've had excellent results with Levitra. Also tried cialis but for me Levitra is better. There are many, many factors.

A good website can be found at www.franktalk.org. Its a support group webpage that discusses erections and what to try following prostate cancer. Another good resource is a book Called Saving your Sex life by Dr. John P Mulhall.

    best wishes to you,

    You did not elaborate on

You did not elaborate on your h/o ventricular fibrillation. Even though you feel well now, please discuss with your Cardiologist on the medications. You need to r/o underlying CAD. Urologists just refill the prescriptions !! Your safe bet IMHO is the vacuum pump.

    slow but frustrating
I purchased the book saving your sex life and going back to it often. As I stated in the past posts I'm at about a 3 oclock position for 2 months and not much change. Question when the erection becomes good enough for intercourse is it sudden or in stages. Maybe it depends on the who it is. I'm at 8 months and thinking that it won't happen after all at 68 it isn't too bad my wife and I have been together for 41 years.
