I'm always surprised...
by how many critters there are even in the most urban of environments. Here in Seattle, I see woodpeckers and possums on a regular basis. And I have friends who have owls and falcons nesting in their yards. Pretty amazing! We also had a cougar and a black bear in town in the last year, but I can probably live without a close encounter with one of those. Ann0 -

I used to live across the Sound from Seattle in a little town called Port Orchard. My folks had put a mobile home on 9 acres of forest land and the toughest "kid" on my block was a 600 pound black bear. I sure do miss that place.0 -

Nice little town. The Puget Sound area is just pretty awesome all-round.0 -

It is funnyab. My mom has a cardinal that comes to visit her when she has her coffee on the patio. She calls the cardinal her guardian angel. We have bird feeders on all corners of the yard.

I have two Mockingbirds who have made my yard their territory. 'Ricky' & 'Lucy' are on their 4th nest of the year.I have totally enjoyed watching them and love listening to the male sing.
My kids live in Issaquah, Wa./Couger Mt. and there is a big bear visiting daily at my daughters' apt. complex. She is afraid to walk the dogs now. Beautiful country but far too wet & cold for a southern girl like me.

It is a nice place, old whaling town in the 1800s and still has the mixed charm of the whaling and old west. A very unique place. And the only cougars that we ever saw in that area were wearing mini dresses outside of the White Pig Tavern in Bremerton.0 -
Love watching them, we have

We have two beautiful red
We have two beautiful red cardinals that flit around the tree branches and serenade us with their song. We also have a small fawn that "dances" for us at the edge of the woods. I've found that it's often the little things in life that can bring us a smile. :-)

Easy hobby
I really enjoy the birds that come to my feeder - even the little woodpecker that i think is a little stupid because he keeps trying to peck through the plastics sides when the feeder holes are an inch away. I can do without the screaming mockingbirds though. They have taken up residence in the tree outside my bedroom window and insist on yelling at the sunrise first thing every morning!0
