Neck Dissection

I am almost 1 year out on neck dissection (July 22, 2011). Looks good but suddenly a stabbing pain. I have had a clean PET in April and saw the doctors just a few weeks ago--all good. Just wondering if this is part of the heal. Hot prickly pains in cheek, even though I am still numb from the original surgery Aug. 2010. I know it is not 'c' but just curious if normal. (I know, normal is only a setting on the dryer!).

is a very slow process, and that type of pain is pretty common. If there is any numbness left out of the huge area created by my radical neck disection 14 years ago, I am not aware of it.

I had a partial neck dissection done just a few weeks ago and I am still numb and having tons of stabbing (I call it an electrical shock) feelings. I am sure it's normal at least that's what I have been told. I have been told it could take months even years sometimes before the nerves fully heal. Not sure if that helped or not. Hope you feel better soon.0 -
pain in neck
Hi KTeacher,
“Normal, setting on the dryer”, that is funny, so we know it’s a pain in the neck.
Clean PET, all good, sounds like (feels like) ramifications of surgery. I know that I have little tingles and shocks (nothing stabbing) and everything seems fine. If you are worried, let the doctors and nurses know, they might have an answer. Or, if the brains on this bus would (and might) get on in the next stop we might get an intelligent answer.
Best,

Tingling...
Hi,
My neck disection was done late Dec. 2011, I have severe stabbing pain in cheek and jaw on the surgery side. Was told from surgery....nerve ending damage. On med for this that helps some (gabapentin) Also have the shocky feelings...called L'Hermittes. (spelling could be wrong !) This could last for a short time, or a long time. As long as you have an all clear on the c....ask about a med to help with symptoms. Good luck, and hopefully you will get some relief ! Warmest regards, Katie0
