Questions re Curcumin
Can anyone explain the differences (I know the "PM" version has Melatonin and B-6), advantages and disadvantages to the various formulations? Or are there other Curcurmin recommendations?
Many thanks!

I heard curcumin withRobinKaye said:Just my opinion...
but I would just stick to the pure Curcumin with piperine (pepper) which is needed to make the Curcumin effective.
I heard curcumin with pineapple was good....I'll look on line and see where it was I saw that!!! CANPREV BRINGS YOU CURCUMIN-PRO TO RELIEVE JOINT INFLAMMATION
Curcumin-Pro™ from CanPrev provides antioxidants for the maintenance of good health and is used in herbal medicine to help relieve joint inflammation. Curcumin-Pro™ is a unique, pure, potent and absorbable curcumin product providing antioxidants that assist in the maintenance of good health and in the relief of joint inflammation. it delivers an impressive 1200mg of curcumin daily, the principal curcuminoid of the popular indian spice turmeric, which has been used as a component of Ayurvedic medicine to treat a wide variety of ailments. clinical trials in humans indicate that the systemic bioavailability of orally administered curcumin is relatively low. We have therefore added phosphatidylcholine (a component of lecithin, natural source) to enhance curcumin's bioavailability, as well as bromelain to further improve curcumin's absorption and also provide potent anti-inflammatory characteristics to the formula. [VCAPS]
And...
"The recommended dosage for Curcumin as an anti-inflammatory is 400 to 600 mg three times per day. To achieve a similar amount of Curcumin using Turmeric would require a dosage of 8,000 to 60,000 mg of Turmeric per day. Because there is a question about the absorption of orally administered Curcumin, Curcumin is often formulated in conjunction with bromelain to possibly enhance absorption. Bromelain also has antiinflammatory effects (see the next section). If a curcumin-bromelain combination is used, it is important to take it on an empty stomach twenty minutes before meals or between meals."

My Integrative MD at MSK has replied:
"The Curamin does contain Boswellia, which is probably what is most helpful for pain in this formulation. The Curcumin is not absorbed very well, so I would not recommend using pure curcumin extract whether or not it contains black pepper. "
so I'm going to stick with the Curamin for now. Thanks! I appreciate all input.0 -

Some health food stores have CuraminBrenda Bricco said:Where do I get curacumin?

We have a local Natural Pharmacy that carries it as well. I just ordered from Amazon.com. Put in "Curamin" and compare online prices.
I didn't know about the Boswella until my dr commented on it. I contacted her because I wanted to know if another formulation was better (i.e. with the piperine.) As an MSK specialist in Integrative Medicine, she is my go-to person on supplements. She's done very well by me.
Because of her, I found the appropriate dosage of D3 for me (extremely high at 10,000 iu/day); and am on CoQ10, which she recommends if you are on a statin. She also recommended the Milk Thistle, which has brought my liver enzymes from high, back into the normal range.0 -

Curamin CuraMed Curamin Extra Strength Curamin PM
Hi, Alice. I noticed your post about Cuarmin quesitons and thought I might be able to help. i am the chief scientific affairs person for the company that makes Curamin, EuroPharma, Inc. Curamin is a combination of 4 ingredients: curcumin, boswellia, DLPA and nattokinase. Each addresses pain from a slightly differenct perspective. Curamin was just named the best natural pain reliever for the 4th year in a row. We use a specific kind of curcumin called BCM-95 curcumin, which has 9 published studies. It is absorbed up to 10 times that of plain curcumin, and does not use piperine. We also use a special kind of clinically studied boswellia called Bos-Pure, which is screened for a problematic compount called BBA. This makes it a more effective form of the herbal extract. Because we are impressed with the effectiveness of these two ingredeints, we have used them in several products in an attempt to better target specifc concerns. Curamin is for pain. Curamin Extra Strength is a little heavier on the curcumina and boswellia, and has a higher level of mg per dose. Curamin PM is for people who need support for both pain and sleep. CuraMed is our highest potency, all-curcumin product. It is purely BCM-95 curcumin, with 500 mg pure curcuminoids per dose. It, too, has the higher absorption. This is the product that is used in certain types of disease studies. So if you need help with pain, Curamin or Curamin Extra Strength might be a good choice, but for people seeking to replicate dosage levels of curcumin used in studies of specific health conditions, CuraMed may be a better choice. I hope this informaton is of use to you. For more information, please feel free to contact us at www.europharmausa.com Best wishes for good health and healing--Cheryl Myers0 -

Thanks for the contribution cheryl,
I have sent you an email.
I have a summary of what and why i using different curcumoids on my blog.
Could you help me please, does your product have the same claimed benefits as the thorne meriva sr , nutrivene longvida and metagenic inflavanoid.
choosing the right tumeric needs a good doctors advice.
do you think the meriva sr claims are just claims or could they have benefit, i notice doctors best also use enhance delivery technology.
Meriva-SR is a unique, patented, time-release curcumin product. People throughout Asia have benefited from the healthful effects of curcumin for centuries. Curcumin is the orange pigment in turmeric (the primary ingredient in curry), and is a potent antioxidant that offers numerous health benefits, including supporting joint health and cardiovascular function, and helping to maintain the body's normal inflammatory response.
Whether taken as a supplement or from food, curcumin is generally poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. In conjunction with Indena S.p.A., the worldwide experts in botanical extract technology, we have uncovered the key to curcumin absorption – phytosome technology. Meriva curcumin phytosome is a unique curcumin extract that is significantly better absorbed than other curcumin extracts.
Phytosomes are plant extracts bound to phosphatidylcholine (PC), an essential component of human cells. Our bodies can make PC, but we can also get it from food or supplements. When taken orally, PC is very well absorbed. The scientists at Indena found a way to attach a curcumin extract to PC for superior absorption, resulting in Meriva. When you take Meriva your body absorbs the PC and the attached curcumin, resulting in more curcumin reaching the cells that can benefit from it.
A 2007 study published in the journal, Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, demonstrated Meriva's superior bioavailability compared to ordinary curcumin. Liver levels of curcumin were also higher with Meriva supplementation. A recent human study (not yet published) demonstrated 29-times greater bioavailability. In both studies, Meriva supplementation resulted in higher plasma concentrations of curcumin from a much smaller dose than with ordinary curcumin.
In a recent eight-month human trial, Meriva was shown to support a healthy inflammatory response. Individuals experienced improvements in clinical and biochemical end-points associated with joint health.
Several studies have illustrated curcumin's hepatoprotective effects, leading researchers to suggest its use in protecting the liver from exogenous insults from environmental toxins. Curcumin also has the capacity to increase both the flow and solubility of bile. Curcumin's hepatoprotective effects are due in part to direct free-radical scavenging; but curcumin also enhances the body's natural antioxidant system, which increases glutathione levels, thereby aiding in hepatic detoxification and inhibiting nitrosamine formation.0 -

I have been doing some research on the use of turmeric/curcumin for pain relief. Everything I read speaks about the need to have fat and piperine to make it bioaccessible. Does the boswellia react in a similar manner with the curcumin? Are there any recorded side effects to using the product, in particular the CuraMed? Thanks.

You have posted to a very old thread (2012) and several posting here are no longer with us. Abrub is though - YAY! -
You might want to start a new thread with your question. Cherly, whom you have addressed in your post, only posted the one time, so chances are slim to none, that she will respond.
Others here (including Abrub, who will be a wealth of informatin), may be able to help you.
